Hello,

Does anybody have any data regarding how often you will be facing a bet on the turn and river on average? I think its around 43% on the turn and 15% on the river but I am not sure. I am using to this to approximate how often I will realize my equity when calling. Any help would be appreciated.

Well I guess I am wondering if he would check 50% of his air normally on the turn instead of betting it. Sorry..that is my real question.

Hello,

I have a question regarding the number of air combos on the river. Lets assume I am OOP HU and the villain is raising 80% of buttons and I call. He cbets the flop, I call and he barrels the turn. Now in this spot he is still betting with 100% of his range. Should I assume he reaches the river with 100% of his range or should I assume he is only betting 50% of his total air if he made a potsized bet on the turn? Right now I am assuming his betting 100% of his air and 100% of his value and checking his marginal hands.

So my question is should I assume he only reached with river with only 50% of his air hands? I know this would be villain dependent but I want to figure out some kind of average.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the info as that was really helpful!

So it´s almost impossible to calculate proper defense ranges on certain boards.

I am just thinking out loud and I am quite possibly totally wrong but wouldn't this be the % of bluff combos in his range? So lets say the villain had 46 value combos and 20 bluff combos so would the defending frequency be 30%? This number could vary widely obviously. On a dry board this could be way above 50% so your almost forced to call with a huge part of your range regardless of equity I would think.

I probably should not be commenting on this as I am a newb but I remember something that Phil said in one of his videos about checking back the nut flush draw on the turn. He said it was better to bet the weaker flush and check the nut flush as you may get much more value from a weaker flush if you hit and you cannot get raised off. Plus you have some showdown value/outs with the Ace. It made sense to me but I really do not know much at this point.

I really liked this video and learned quite a bit. I was a bit confused on the AQ hand in which the optimal bet was calculated at 1.3 pot with 36% bluffing combos. Can somebody show me the formula on how that was calculated? Thanks

I think that is the best point so far. Thank you!

Ok that makes perfect sense. Thanks for all the replies

Right. I totally didnt get my question right above. I have balanced my bluffs and value but was looking for what % of my value range should be checked back. So mostly it should be villain specific which makes sense. Thanks

Well..after thinking about what you just said they are not related so I am not sure why I thought that. Maybe it was the three beers I had last night? But yeah..what I meant to say is should I be checking back 25% of my total value range or is that too high? I tend to do this more often then I should to keep the villain from thinking I always check back air. I guess I want to prevent him from always leading the turn when I am weak and keep him guessing.  I am a relatively new HU player btw.

Post | Tiramisu914 posted in NLHE: Slowplaying Frequencies

Hello,

I have a question regarding slowplaying frequencies. I am wondering if it should be equal to my bluffing frequency? I know I should be bluffing 25% if I was making a half pot bet so should I be checking back the flop with value a similar percentage?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok that makes sense about realizing my equity on the flop. What about jamming rivers?

Hi Tom. In addition to your videos do you have any recommendations on learning the basics of PLO as far as books, sites etc? I have never played a hand but I am interested in learning and I want to have some sort of clue before I get into it. Any help would be appreciated.

I learned so much from my last thread post that I thought I would ask another rookie question regarding what I should be thinking on when I should jam vs bet. I know in general in 3B pots and 100bb that I will be getting stacks in by the river in general so I should be thinking about jamming the flop to protect against draws etc if I flop any kind of top or over pair, set, two pair correct? But what if I flop a draw and I think the villains range is weak? Should I be thinking about jamming then as a semi bluff in big pots?

I think its all about whether or not I will be pot committed by the river so I might as well just jam now and get some fold equity before I am unable to but I am not really sure. Any help would be appreciated as I am not really sure what my thought process should be in general regarding this and its been bugging me for awhile now.

Well it is pretty great but wood boats are ton of work. All I do is fix leaks, sand, varnish, paint, re-sand, re-varnish. The efforts are worth it however but sometimes I think I got in way over my head...kind of like me playing poker...

Thanks for everybody's replies on this as it has improved my thinking to a huge degree. I think I over defend on the turn in general as many people do give up on the river, myself included which is a leak I need to work on. I have more leaks then the wood boat I live on!

I found a faster way to solve for minimum equity required which is Bet/(Pot+2*Bet) or 100/300 = 3

Ok..33% would be breakeven. (.33*300)-100 = -1 so anything above that?

Comment | Tiramisu914 commented on Turn Leak?

Ok..I did some EV calcs using the above scenarios to try to understand what I should do. Here is a breakdown of EV based on equity without rake reduction:

PotSize = PotSize + BetToCall or 300+300 = 600
EV = (Equity*PotSize)-BetToCall

Bet Pot:
(.25*600)-300 = -150
(.30*600)-300 = -120
(.33*600)-300 = -102
(.40*600)-300 = -60
Bet Half Pot:
(.25*450)-150 = -37.5
(.30*450)-150 = -15
(.33*450)-150 = -1.5
(.40*450)-150 = +30

Ok now I assume we have to do a combinatoric of his hand range to get an idea of the amount of air in his range correct? So lets say the villain raises from the button and I call. I check the flop, he fires, I call. I check the turn and he fires a pot sized bet. So at this point I have to determine what amount of his range he can be betting for value or as a bluff. Lets say he raises 85% of buttons. So on the turn he is still betting with 100% of his range. Lets assume I called the flop with two overcards KTs with board: 9h4d7sQh. So equity wise vs his entire range it is 43.33% which is -EV to a pot sized bet. So now we have to figure out how much of time he is bluffing.  So if we break down his range to just value we roughly get AQ, KQ, Qx, QQ, KK, AA, 99, 44, 77, 97, 65 and all hearts. So that is only 20% of his entire range. So now we know in general that he has to be bluffing 80% of the time in this spot as the rest is thin value or air. So in this example we do not have pot equity but definitely we have to call due to the fold equity he needs from me. Is this how I should be thinking? Thanks for your help.

ok so just to be clear I can call any hand that has 33%+ equity to a half pot and 50%+ full pot etc correct? Thanks for the info as I am pretty much a rookie.

I was looking thru my HU Turn stats OOP and I am folding to 33% of turn barrels. I think I may be playing too loose in this spot. I heard somewhere that it should be in the 40-45% area? Any help would be appreciated

For the most part I do not know the wtf I am talking about but I do not like this line either. Anytime you pot control the turn you obviously give control to the villain and lose any possible fold equity. And as stated above you make your hand transparent telegraphing you can no longer bet for value but want to get to showdown or have given up. Barrel or maybe even check shove?

This make complete sense now. Thanks for the replies

Sept. 8, 2013 | 1:38 p.m.

Hello,

I was wondering what would be considered standard % of my range that would need to be represented for value in order to pull off a successful bluff. I have heard 10 combos (I think Cole South said that) but that seems like a very small number.

Lets assume an HU game and the villain raises the button and I 3B OOP. The villains calls and the flop comes Ks4d2h. So the only hands I can really rep for value are AA, AK, KQs, 44 and 22. KQo, KJs would probably be called and 44 and 22 are for the most part out of my 3B range. Possibly KXs some of the time but not likely. So for the most part I can only rep 3 hands and other are thinner value (88-QQ etc) but probably good but not really matter for the sake of this post.

Lets also assume I have a typical 3B range that consists of 200 hand combos. So of that range AA, AK, and KQs are 24 of the possible 200 combos (not exactly due to the board K but lets go with it) or 12% of my probable range which is very low.

So my question is what % of my perceived value range should I be bluffing with as a minimum? I know there are other factors when bluffing but I was just curious if there was a general rule or standard for this. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
