I understand how to calculate equity vs other hands but I was more concerned with how to properly calculate how often a shove needs to work preflop.

hey steve,
what do you make of his play with K3s in the third hand?
Nov. 6, 2014 | 5:38 p.m.
i believe he still has Qx+ in his range that check calls.
we can fold out his air by betting turn but we can also accomplish the same on the river, i dont expect him to start bluffing.
i probably should have bet-bet but i thought this was a good hand to check back and bet river with, preferring to bet all my weaker non-SD on the turn.
Oct. 17, 2014 | 10:03 a.m.
wow that first hand :O very nice call. i would snap fold lol.
is it common to see big bluffs like this MP v UTG at 500z?
Oct. 16, 2014 | 11:37 p.m.
i would never cbet here. i like how you played it.
you can give him a range and look at each players equity on the flop.

SB: $94.47
BB: $63.65
UTG: $77.29
HJ: $49.25
CO: $50
limited reads
UTG folds, HJ folds, CO folds, Hero raises to $1, SB raises to $4, BB folds, Hero calls $3
it also makes my hand look showdown heavy so a river bet will look more credible.
should i just bet-bet?

SB: $79.77
BB: $58.17 (Hero)
UTG: $53.42
HJ: $49.25
CO: $147.42
he cbet flop 50%; turn 40%. i guess he will cbet tighter than this because i cold called.
i dont have much other good reads because of small sample but he is winning and looks like good solid player.
UTG folds, HJ raises to $1.50, CO folds, BN folds, SB raises to $5, Hero calls $4.50, HJ calls $3.50
i do not expect him to barrel hand like 99-TT so he can have JJ+ for value.
i do not think he takes this sizing with AK either.
So what bluffs he has?
Oct. 14, 2014 | 5:48 p.m.
hi tyler,
its hard to extract multiple streets of value from his range with your hand.
i think you are underestimating how bad the fish are at these stakes and how wide they are.
we dont have enough reads on opponent but from experience they are very wide in this spot.
Oct. 1, 2014 | 5:59 p.m.
everyone is saying x/c flop is the standard play which i agree with against most regulars but this is a fish playing 41/28 who probably bets too much when checked too and we should not be worrying about balancing against fishes like this.
wont we get more value from betting small twice against his wide range or checkcalling multiple streets? this is not a normal opponent.
Oct. 1, 2014 | 5:55 p.m.
i hate this spot but double barrel flop and turn small can be an idea. fish call with wide ranges.
i want to checkcall turn but from exp they will fire the river a lot and we are put in a tough decision.

3 betting A6s was maybe too optimistic.
UTG folds, HJ folds, CO raises to $1.50, BN folds, Hero raises to $5, BB folds, CO calls $3.50
Sept. 30, 2014 | 6:35 p.m.
ok. he tank called QJo
Sept. 30, 2014 | 9:22 a.m.
A smart opponent can realize you almost never have KK, AA or AK in this spot
for this reason would it be better to check+call turn if he bet? and if he checks back we can bluff most rivers?
but he also squeezes so much and giving up often.
Sept. 29, 2014 | 8:28 p.m.
what next?

cbet flop/turn/river: 70%/60%/29%.
went to showdown 30% / won showdown 48%
UTG folds, HJ raises to $1.50, Hero calls $1.50, BN folds, SB folds, BB folds
Sept. 29, 2014 | 5:58 p.m.

cbet 3bet pot 45% & very low raise stat 4-8%
4k hand sample
UTG folds, HJ raises to $1.20, Hero calls $1.20, BN raises to $5, SB folds, BB folds, HJ folds, Hero calls $3.80
if we bet what size and what do we do if he raise?
Sept. 29, 2014 | 5:49 p.m.
i dont have time to give fulll reply now but i would check a lot of my 3bet value range on this board texture.
i dont 3bet KJo in this situation for the sake of defending.
i thought it would be more +ev to 3bet it than to fold, or to flat with BB still to act.
it is an ugly board texture that connects with his defending range so what is the value in a flop bet, we cannot get 3 streets.
the turn pairs and i decide to check again. i should probably have bet.
i am not capped on the river because i play lots of stronger hands like this.
i would call river against loose BTN defend but he is tighter so this is tougher situation.
Sept. 27, 2014 | 4:08 p.m.
see your bottom post :}
AA is marginal on this flop against his range.
Maybe I should bet flop.
I didn't have a huge sample on him and it looked like he was folding to 3bets a lot which is why I checked.
