I am usually calling here. The strength of your hand in definitely under repped and villain can be betting with AK, AQ and still think they are good at these limits.Back door flush gets there and so does 89 but i think as played villain checks back 89ss and takes the free card. I'c call because there are still a lot of combos you beat that villain has.

I find in this situation villain is usually just making a play as paired board in quite dry so they are attacking your cbet assuming you have nothing. If he has a 7 in this spot, surely he would just call and let you continue to do the betting with your 3, two high cards or overpair?

Problem is, if you call his raise OTF you have to be prepared for him to barrel turn and river and unless another three comes down our small pair cant stand that heat.

Depending on player and dynamics, sometimes i just make a stand there and then.

What limit do you play, Mason?

Can we 4bet fold in this spot?

July 20, 2016 | 11:22 a.m.

Thanks for this comment, Mason.
I have similar problems when i whiff flop like this; folding to cbet continually is so exploitable, so you have given me something to work with here.
If i assign a villain a range and assume his probably of hitting flop, depending on pot odds, math indicates i could/should still call in similar situations?

Play 5/10/25NL - sounds very fishy, I know, but I haven't been playing that long and my intention isn't to grind out 100k hands and beat a limit...yet. Just studying different concepts and constructing different ranges and applying them on the tables.

With this renewed focus/motivation and the help of study group and sites like this etc I feel like I have the knowledge, ability and temperament to beat the micros - it's just a matter of sitting down and logging the hours and hands. That's what this is about really!

Post | Tawan6 posted in NLHE: Study Group NLHE Micro/Low stakes

Hey guys,
I've seen a few posts like this before but most of them seem to fizzle out. I've recently started taking No Limit seriously. Recently I've added a lot more studying to my poker schedule in an attempt to push my game further and hopefully avoid plateauing, finding leaks etc, the standard stuff. I have a few problems with this. I'm someone who works/learns much better in discussions and bouncing ideas off eachother than just sitting down on my own going through hands. My attention doesn't hold very well doing this for prolonged periods and I don't know if I'm just reinforcing my leaks into my own game. I had a coaching session and while it was really helpful its a bit out of my roll atm to do consistently.
So, basically what I'm looking for is a couple of fellow NLHE lovers playing micro/low stakes who are willing to semi-regularly skype/teamviewer, sweat eachother, go through hands together, just generally discuss the game, whatever helps. I'd love to do this with any skill level (I imagine the majority of players here are much better than I am, still fairly inexperienced). I'm currently grinding micros still myself practicing/building a roll. If there's anyone in a similar boat to me, get in touch here or tweet me @LewisGriffiths

Cheers guys

July 19, 2016 | 10:17 a.m.

I have taken a lot of time recently to reevaluate and fine tune my preflop ranges for 6 max cash. feeling more comfortable with preflop spots. My question is, what is the best way to utilise software like Flopzilla when analysing flop textures? I am fine with what i should be opening/3betting etc but unsure where i am at when i miss the flop (and sometimes when i hit it). Any advice on different board textures and spot you find tricky OTF?

Feel free for discussion, a healthy talk with be great learning for me. Thanks!

Villain's 3bet% is slightly high (just), can assume he is 3betting wider range from the button, which you usually will be ahead of, so i dont mind the 4Bet to build a pot if you hit flop. However, since you are OOP and uncomfortable, call more frequently, x/c cbets slightly more and reevaluate turn? What are Villain's barrel stats?

As played, have to fold flop with no backdoors. Fwiw if hero has Ah, i would be more tempted to be sticky or get frisky and fight back a small % of time as 4B folding flops in hyper exploitable.

David (OP), what did villain show up with at showdown?

July 19, 2016 | 7:52 a.m.

I'm not sure about average thinking player at this stake. To bet J here is high level play, trying to balance frequencies and merge ranges so you are betting river with top of range and well as weak hands (not bluffs). This will only work against another good thinking player, unless you just get picked off every time by station not thinking on that level. At least that's what i think anyway.

I can only repeat what is said above. You clearly have the ability to beat the games so just have faith and remember to focus on decisions not results. Life is one long session, downswing wont last forever. Take time away from the tables, the games will still be there when you come back man! GLGL

Just out of curiosity, what do we think villain has?

What are your other options? Min raise, then call it off to a 3bet? No way you are seeing a flop here being so short, so much better to be the aggressor and GII Pre. AJ is usually way ahead of blind range, especially when blinds have to fold marginal hands because of bubble. Unfortunate, BB showed up with kings. Still had 30ish% equity. It happens, wp, gg!

Unless having KQdd specifically OTR, what else gets there that beats you? We cant live our life assuming villain always flops flush so i call it off, gg. More than not villain shows up with two pair/worst sets so long run EV+

July 18, 2016 | 9:14 a.m.

4 bet to about $2 here and you have a pot size bet to shove flop. Villain hits set. It happens, gg. Or, take the guess work out and shove pre.

July 18, 2016 | 9:09 a.m.

Also interesting to consider you have blocker to the QJs draw which aggressive players may barrel with. AK/AQ give up OTR. With this in mind, i fold.

July 18, 2016 | 9:05 a.m.

Villain has A2 and 44-88 a lot more than TT+ in this spot at this limit. No point raising because you fold out bluff or get stacked by weirdly played TT+. Call and reevaluate OTT.

July 18, 2016 | 8:58 a.m.

If board comes a blank and doesn't pair here, do we still feel great about getting value from AJ/KJ? Basically, does TPTK/okay kicker go up or down in value when board pairs?

I feel like with TP i never get three streets of value as i assume nobody calls down and shows up with worst very often. What you think guys?

July 18, 2016 | 8:55 a.m.

Comment | Tawan6 commented on А2s river

Very small showdown value here as pretty much all UTG range that gets to river beats us. Surely TP would have folded by now so we are looking at overpair or TT? If villain holds TT, he never folds. Can we fold out JJ+? Need to know some stats on Villian i imagine, also, how are you viewed? What does villain put you on? As played, check and hope!

July 18, 2016 | 8:48 a.m.

Betting small here (like 30% pot) may be viewed as weak and may induce shoves from fishy players with just TP worst kicker - if we are confident we have the best hand, max value. Just my two cents.

July 18, 2016 | 8:41 a.m.

What is the purpose of the jam? I'm guessing it's to get folds as you don't think your hand is best. Line taken suggests you hit set OTF, slowed down when flush hit and filled up OTR - solid story. Question is: does villain have flush? Prob not, unless playing really tricky OTT. That leaves us with 1/2 pair type hands, which should definitely fold IMO. If villain does have flush, is he good enough to fold it?

Last question: if you hit set OTF, would you not x/r such a wet flop and try to GII there?
