You can never ever check this flop with a big hand like AK. By not betting your hand on the flop, it instantly loses value. The #1 reason why a check is bad here? It gives a weaker player the thought that you don't have a King and are just trying to buy the pot. This thought, is what ends up putting you in such a difficult spot with his raise. If he really had KQ, he was SURE he had you beat and played his hand that way. If he was ahead or behind is not what went wrong here, your check on the flop is. If he calls your flop bet then raises your turn bet, you can bet on him having it. Although, the way the hand was played, you have to fold. Checking a flopped set here is ok, not top pair. Hope that helps!

You HAVE TO rr bigger pre, for sure. You said yourself he was super tight and only opened ONCE in 2 hours. The fact that he is opening utg is another indicator you should do everything you can pre to get all the money in. This is a dream situation pre. On a queen high flop, the money goes in. No chance you should EVER fold this flop. WAIT! I just noticed that nothing you said made sense. If he raised UTG, how in the hell are you check calling bets? Did he check raise you to $38 on the flop? That would be the ONLY way he would be able to raise.
