TY! I'll have a look into it. I can appreciate how 'off the felt' work is a key element in developing your ability as a poker player. Sometimes, the game or session will happen so quick, you catch 4 hours sleep, head into work and start another 'grind' over. With this, the time for reflection is minimal - not exactly great when wanting/needing to improve/study/understand. I know we talk about money management, but I need to acquaint myself with a little thing called 'time management'... :) Cheers WM!

That was my line of thought tbh - maths has the element of importance to decision making, but in the real-time process of a poker hand, your logical thought process will take greater precedence than your math-based influence...TY Zen.

Hi guys,

As this and my previous posts narrate, I am pretty new to the game/world of poker. I just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on the mathemtics behind poker...

How important is it? How much does it influence your decision (I appreciate this is situation dependant)? Due to its ability to improve player's poker ability, where can you learn the maths? Are there specific books? Is there software out there to teach? Is there an inet site to aid...

I can envisage the world gasping at the line "Math - Ket Concept or Overinflated Reliance"...But please give me your thoughts and answers, as I want to install as much information as neceassary on ym on-board computer to help me beat the games out there...

Thank you for your help/contribution/advice a ALWAYS! Real good of anyone to take the time to help a fellow player.

Hi Mitch. Interested in your final view from your post - "unprofitable". Could I ask, why do you think this is the case? Is it because the bar will continuously rise? Is it because the game will become so saturated with well educated players that your edge decreases significantly? Are you referring to the 'big games' i.e. $50/$100+ NLH/PLO specifically, or is this a reference to all game levels from micro onwards?

Looking forwar dto hear your thoughts...TY

'Off the felt work'...Mike, could you please elaborate...I'm interested!

Thanks DD. Yeah, I have to agree with your view on a great addition to your arsenal. With this said, how user-friendly is PT? I downloaded the free trial and tried to use it - I felt I was unsuccessful. Tbh, I work long hours so I didn't have the time to learn the software like I wanted to (no excuse really, i know...make the time). How user-friendly do you feel it is? Is there material explaining how to use the key features? Any shortcuts? Or just use the PT user guide? Online tutorials? I know there's a few points here, but if you could point me in the right direction i'd be eternally grateful...:)

Just a quick thank you to everyone who has contributed. Such a great insight, Zen especially. :) Just extending on a few of the previous points. You talk about game selection! How do you go about this? Do you use a poker software, like PT? Do you just refer to the reams of notes you've made on players over the years - if they're at the table, sit down and get cosy...Is it more a case of structure, i.e. to play within strct BRM strucutre. I'm really intrigued as to what you mean, as online poker, i.e. Stars, has such high volume it could be difficult to select the 'right' game with the 'right' opponents...TY!

Mike, thanks for your comments. Great insight into what you did, really appreciate it. It's a a great story. How have you managed to plug your leaks and beat your tilt? Did you ever have a tendency to tilt? Do you think someone who is very tilty can beat it in the LR?

Equilab? Stand up against the bigger boys, aka, PT and HM?

RIO,

Before I start, I must say I really appreciate anyone getting back to me on this.

Right, so there are numerous software programs out there screaming and dancing about their benefits for your game. Are they really that good? I have read a lot on their websites, but I want an objective POV from someone using them everyday. How beneficial are they to your game? Are they extending your winning return, or have you seen a relatively small affect?

Do you winning players swear by HM/PT/LB? Can you be a substantial winning player without such software?

TY!!! Harv3y Jnr

Post | Harv3yJnr posted in Chatter: Bankroll Management: Starting out
Hi RIO,

I am looking for some ultra-tight advice. I've been playing poker for a year, and I fluctuate at an unhealthy rate. I play $.50/1 PLO and NLH as well as throwing far too many MTTs into the mix. I am in the process of delving into my game, as I want it to become a good income stream in addition to my professional career. To do this, I need to look at my structure, my bankroll management and my attitude.

When you guys started, all the pro's on this website and every other player inputting on the discussion, how did you get to grips with bankroll management? You hear so many stories about the Pro's depositing $50 and never looking back - so did they just spin it up at $.25/50 100BB cash game, or did they do as bankroll management suggest and play with $2 at $.01/.02.

I'm really confused. How did you become winning players, from starting so low? Did you just grind thousands of hours at ultra low stakes? Where was your contingency? What structure did you use?

I know there are numerous questions here, but I would appreciate any input. I just feel my structure lets me down, and leads to tilt which is killin' my game.

Thanks guys in advance for any opinions/help/advice.
