"stress testing" our assumptions - sub 100bb stacks
Playing <100bb: I've seen a lot of comments where the only read is that villain who is playing at less than 100bb is (likely) a fish. This suggests that reg treats a sub100 stack as more straightforward and that reg should overplay their hands. It seems to me that changing a default strategy reduces your winrate, especially if your opponent knows your adjustment (and you don`t know he knows), i.e. have you been leveled in a minor way? I understand that the larger the stack, the greater the leverage for your edge, but I'd suggest the difference between 100bb and 90 bb isn't all that large if it induces villains to reduce their skill. For example, if we win at 3bb/100 @100bb, assume we'd win ~2.7bb/100 @90bb, so the question is: in reg-infested games, can we reduce reg's skill by .3bb/100 by inducing him to over-adjust to our fishiness?
Additionally: as stack size reduces, the bet sizing / hand valuation can change for different stack sizes. If we have more experience with these stacks, it stands to reason we can mildly outplay equal opposition in these spots.

This only works for a short term until the regs get a read on you other than "he doesnt have 100bb, so hes prolly a fish", so unless you join a new site where no one has stats on you, I dont think theres any merit to playing like this consistantly, as the reduction in your profitability isnt worth the EV you gain on the few occurrences you have vs new regs with no info on you.
The bulk of our winnings comes from playing against fish, so I think our strategy in general should be to maximize vs them as much as possible, which means making sure we have them covered. If you find yourself in a situation where the fish isnt full stacked and the regs dont know you (or are better than you) then playing enough to have just the fish covered is a decent strategy (assuming you dont have a significant adv over the regs)
Fair points, especially about short stacking vs short stacked fish.
I was thinking specifically of cases where you don't reload in zoom - but yeah, that only works for so long. But while we are new/new-ish (to a site or level), is it still invalid?
I definitely think its valid, in the same way that putting numbers in your nick or using a baby avatar is valid. Anything we can do to create an edge is valid. Its just important to keep the big picture in mind and be aware that in creating an edge vs someone we can be costing ourselves EV vs someone else. But we should always be choosing the options that maximize our EV.
Very well put imo. Thanks for your thoughts!
