NL600 River value bet?

CO: 1293.26
BN: 1624.03 (Hero)
SB: 632.16
BB: 772.63
UTG: 600
HJ: 716.12
CO is a reg with something like 28/20/12 stats. He seems to be newer to these stakes might be taking a shot.
HJ is very weak passive
Preflop (9) (6 Players)
Hero was dealt 7 9
UTG folds, HJ calls 6, CO raises to 24, Hero calls 24, SB folds, BB folds, HJ calls 18
Flop (81) K 7 9 (3 Players)
HJ checks, CO bets 48, Hero calls 48, HJ folds
Turn (177) 3 (2 Players)
CO checks, Hero bets 126, CO calls 126
River (429) J (2 Players)
CO checks, Hero bets 258
I think that he probably doesn't have too much of a river check calling range on this exact card. I end up betting smaller as a result with my range, but I'm not sure if there are that many worse hands that he'll still call with. Thoughts?

Preflop is spew, your losing a lot of money here.

On river, we got hands that are higher up in our valuerange. You rarely get called by worse + you are sometimes beat, ie KhXh.

I disagree. I think we can profitably play a LOT from the BTN, if we have the appropriate preflop and postflop defense strategies. Being 200BB+ deep also encourages me to play extra-loose on the BTN vs CO, especially if 'he's taking a shot'. The bigger the edge, and the deeper we are, the closer to any 2 I'd play. And I'm pretty sure it's not spew, if you know what you're doing obv :).

Villain range after river check

KJ+, KTs, 77, 99, JTs

AK(12) KQ(12) KJ(9) 77(1) 99(1) approsimative

u can seee that he have more combos with Kx than set's or another points

(i don't understand why with QQ JJ TT he must bet flop turn) i don't want to consider this cards

i think that river he haven't a X push range because when u call on a blank at turn and river hit your range

if villain never xpush 2pairs or sets or draws... with showdown value u check back and i think that u bet only two pairs+

that river i bet 1/3 pot with nuts, set or 2pair....

i don't know who villain missed cbet that value bet 1/3 pot in any case i think that is not possible to balance with bluff...

i balance with nuts- medium value

this imho :)

Well,I think a small bet, maybe 1/3 pot will be better, the river bet is too thin no worse hands will call you. V have JJ,QQ,KX and Some FD combos, just wonder if V check-raise the river , hero fold, right?

I would check back this river. There is not as much value as it seems on a scary card like that + vilain can easily go for a check-raise.

I could raise the flop, depends on many things actually. I could also bet the turn bigger, with the intention of shutting down on this kind of river.

Agree that preflop is fine with these stacks. River... well, we just ran out of perceived bluffs when this card falls, so we can't value bet what is now close to the bottom of our flop turn value range.

Yeah without squeezy blinds I'm literally flatting 79s on the button 100% vs co open.  What do you guys think about raising flop here?

Likeclockwork 10 years, 9 months ago

I chose not to raise the flop in order to keep in the HJ. If he had not been in the pot, or was a more normal opponent, I think I'd raise the flop. Not sure how good/bad that is?

I was wondering why you didn't raise the flop but I like the reasoning. With the fish still left to act and being IP vs both I think its better to flat flop. If it was HU vs reg I raise flop here

jh is a really dangerous card actually, some strong draw hands have complete as well in river, almost no bluff from hero here,so maybe a thin bet will be better if no raise at turn.
