Day 3 1K WSOP- Shove spot
Here's another situation from this year's WSOP. It is Day 3, Hero starts 18/22 with 20BB exactly to start the day. The 3 tournament chip leaders are to my direct left. All are aggressive. Hero has folded all hands for 2 orbits as I feel I have no other option but shove fold here given the set-up, other than to perhaps defend appropriate big blinds. We have lost 1 player on Day 3 from our table, and we are now 7 handed.
Hero is down to about 14 BB, and gets AK UTG+1. Shoves, no callers. Next hand AA UTG, here I erred and shoved at about 16 BB. I should have min raised, hoping to get reshoved on, but I was hoping my back to back shoves may have attracted a suspicious caller. Everyone folds.
Next hand 77 in BB. UTG +1 raises 2.5 BB, he has a 40 BB stack. I played with him all Day 2, and was in good spots all day with him, showing no bluffs. UTG + 2 flats. Folded to Hero who now has about 18 BB. I shove. UTG calls with 99. Hero busts. There needed to be 3 more busts for a paybump, which frankly didn't concern me at this stage. Standard reshove? Interested to know thoughts on reshove ranges here. Thanks again.

if utg 2 is good i would squeeze shove way tighter 99, AQ
AA shove not so great. 77 is highly optimistic against standard range setups on 9 handed tables.
We are 7 handed now.
I think 77 is still a bit marginal, but with that much dead money in the pot I wouldn't fault you for shoving. I'd def shove 99 and maybe 88 as well, so 77 can't go too wrong imo.
Ul you ran into 99 :(
I had specifically thought out my ranges in this situation the morning before, and was going with AQ+ 88+ and with 77, AJs I would decide. I felt given this particular individual had a wider than average opening range here, that this was a reasonable spot. I would have been happy with a flip here. I felt I was at a skill disadvantage to most that remained, and I have to think it can't be way off to shove here.
I think shoving 77 here is too optimistic even being 7 handed. Opener and flatter are both EP which is suspect. Like you said, at best we are flipping, which isn't a terrible result, but we probably still have some stack utility and FE if we peel here and fold flop. If we fold the SB next hand it looks like we'll still have about 14bbs which is enough to work with to pick another spot over the next round.
I don't hate the shove but thinking about it critically I would say it's a slight error.
I agree with this, I erred on the side I wanted to err on. If I had peeled, results would have been no different...flop was 552. as i said, this was the very bottom of my get it in range here. In retrospect, I think I would make 99 the bottom here.
