AQ w/23.5bb's early on day 2 of a live tourney

I've just got home from busting a live tourney having run AQ into AK for (24 bb's eff). I didn't want to just write it off as a cooler, as I feel like this is happening too often and perhaps I'm misplaying hands in certain spots.

Background info:
It was a £220/$350 buy in w/110/341 players left (35 paid).
It was the second orbit of day 2, and the loosest player (stronger player at the table imo) at the table (having played 4 hands in just under 2 orbits) opens the HJ (we have almost identical stacks) to 4.6k (1k/2k/200), I have AQ on the BTN and elected to just 3b jam 47k (23.5bb's) into the 9.4k pot, figuring I would add 20%+ to my stack without showdown most of the time, and given the fact my stack didn't feel all that playable.

Q's:
- Am I wrong about my stack-size not being that playable?
- At what point does 3b jamming your stack become too much? 20, 25, 30 bb's?
- Is there an argument to flat (obv risking the blinds coming in, although they could pot squeeze/jam worse hands than mine) with a view to trying to take it away on the flop or turn?
- Should I consider making it 5x?
FWIW the board ran out T high, and I don't want to be too results orientated etc, just wanted to ask the above questions with regards to general tournament strategy.

Thanks in advance guys,
Matt

If he is a loose player as you say, its definitely a better option to 3 bet jam your stack. If you 3 bet induce, I dont think it will be as profitable. W/ your jam it is really unlucky he calls you w/ AK. You would get a lot of calls from worse hands or coin flip situations. I think 3 bet jamming is good for under 30 bb stacks...If you 3 bet and make it 5x, you look pot commited and will make his calling range tighter.

I agree with Adam. I'd be happy to 3b jam AQ here, because he seems that he could be stealing a decent amount here, allowing you to add a good % to your stack like you mention, and I think his calling range could have worse Ax (AJ, ATs) in it as well.

3 bet jam is totally fine. No need to induce a flip and he probably won't jam worse Ax into you often enough so you're really just hoping he rips KQ if you 3b to induce - otherwise you're almost always flipping.

I think we have the nuts here and should play accordingly, 3bet/call, play post flop in position. Its wrong to say he won't ship worse aces or worse hands, this is why we do this, to induce. Also if hes calling with worse hands hes certainly capable of reshipping them. You are bu vs a steal position, this is the part of the game where you 3bet looks by far the bluffiest. I'm shoving hands like JTs and 22 here not the top of my range.

Also people adjust wrong vs loose and loose aggressive players. If hes loose hes more apt to 4bet shove wide. But hes also less likely to call a jam because his range is going to be over 50%. So hes folding most of time and we waste our hand.

Furthermore we give him a chance to flat with kq, aj, at, kjs, and so on..we want this BADLY!
