Mental Game Goal 2021: Winning sessions when playing longer (and more hands)
If I filter my HM3 for hands or session duration (per day) its quite clear the more I play the more I lose or when I lose I play more.
Now factors might include:
1. trying to "win it back" thereby playing longer and ending up losing more
2. variance
3. lack of focus
I am exploring each, I just wanted to post this to create some accountability and see if I can improve on my ability to play longer and have winning sessions, perhaps quit earlier if I can't seem to resolve my tilt (or just playing badly or tired).

Why don't you set a stop loss?
It won't weed out the root cause but it will be an easy fix while working on your mental game
A tihnk a stop loss is great for shot-taking. In this case, I am trying to push the boundaries and learn how to deal with playing well under pressure. If I always stop before working through the mental game issues, I don't really learn what is affecting me.
i challenged myself to play the most hands I ever have in one day.
Unfortunately i was up 10 buyins at one point and lost it back. But it was a mental exercise and a physical exercise as much as a learning one. I will try keep my session durations shorter from now. Find a sweet spot where I am playing my A-Game - being focused and disciplined.
I just posted about this same topic in my journal! I talked about an old Phil Ivey interview because I just realized that I was doing the same.
I find that 2 hours is about my peak before I really start to lose focus.
You should have some sort of fundamental framework pre flop that keeps your VPIP and PFR relatively stable. That way you have a system to fall back on and you're not susceptible to ups and downs in your sessions affecting your looseness.
I played poker for a very long time online and I can tell you that you simply cannot multi table online for hours on end and expect your focus to be there day in and day. Taking breaks (10-15min) and capping session length (45min-1h30min) is a great way to stop yourself from degrading in session and being able to stay fresh and recollect yourself when you need to.
I used to target between 2 - 3 session / day, 3 - 4.5 hrs total play time, 4 - 6 days / week. I was a professional online for 10+ years, so this may not be necessarily doable for those that aren't. I definitely agree that after 2 hours straight my focus and control starts to dip. Hope this helps.
