Hi RIO members,

I am a former student of Emty and I wanted to share my experiences with him so that you can have a better idea of what you can expect if you are thinking of getting some coaching.

As a quick background, I am recreational 6-max PLO50-PLO100 online grinder that I work a 9/5 job right now but I have serious aspirations of quitting at the end of the year and giving poker a real shot. Because of this, after having spend some months grinding and studying myself, I decided to get some coaching and I decided to go with Emty.

Why did I decide Emty as the coach? I did that especially because I resonated quite a bit with his way of teaching PLO and his overall approach to learning the game: studying GTO solutions and learn how and when to deviate from these solutions against different opponents in different games. This is not to say that other coaches approach might not be valid, it is just that I resonated with this one the most.

As far as the coaching is concerned, I came in with good expectations and Thomas did not disappoint. Our coaching experience was a mix of session/hand reviews as well as a tone of question solving about specific aspects of the game that I had come up during my study and playing sessions. The great thing of studying with Emty was the wide arsenal of tools that he had (and I do not) that greatly enhanced my learning and comprehension of the game. Of course, I am talking about solvers like Monker and Vision which together with his expert level of thought process about the game allowed me to identify and correct some leaks that I had in my game. All in all, I was very satisfied with the coaching that I got from him, and even though I am not getting coached right now, I will not hesitate to do it again once I have done a fair bit more of playing and studying in my game and found new struggles.

If anyone is interested getting coaching from Emty, I would not hesitate to recommend him to you and I would like to add a couple of recommendations that you guys should check before getting coached (in general):
- Try to come up with specific topics (specific aspects of the game) at hand that you might want to discuss with the coach. This will optimize your time and learning during the coaching.
- Do not use coaching as your only study time. I know, everyone loves playing and it is true that playing you can learn as well but as beginner, I would recommend studying more and playing less unless you need to specifically build a bankroll from poker (you don't have another source of income to build your roll).

I believe this is all for now. Thanks Thomas/Emty once again for the coaching, you will probably hear from me later this year again.

To all RIO members, feel free to ask me any questions if you still have any. I will be glad to help.

Cheers,
Toni

Hi Leszek,

Any chance you can update the link above with the customized HUD with pop ups?

Many thanks!

Hi, I would like to be added too. I am getting back to PLO after some years and would definitely appreciate a study group.
