Thanks for that. Seems like an innate part of being human is wanting quick fixes and work arounds to avoid long drawn out hard work processes. Good to be reassured that the latter is normally the only solution...

Cheers bro!!! Big fan of it too, have listened to it religiously since it's birth :D

Tommy Angelo's book sounds awsome!! It's on my list!

Nov. 5, 2015 | 1:50 a.m.

Recently I've noticed that a weird combination of these two flaws are prominent in my mindset mid session.

When bad beats happen I find myself saying "yeah obviously" and in spots where I know someone is never bluffing and has to have got there (usually luckily) I say "he's never bluffing here" and put him on maybe his exact hand and then call off saying again the "yeah obviously! Fuck I run so bad" or some shit like that...

Also it seems like because about 6 months ago I got into a really good flow and zone were I was just crushing my stakes on the euros and felt untouchable there seems to be a kind of entitlement complex for results...

What can I start doing pre, during & post sessions to get to the crux of these habits and mental flaws and get back to enjoying the game, playing my best and crushing.

N.B. I think sometimes after bad beats where I feel like a victim I'm prone to calling off in light spots or being a bit spewy "because obviously I'm not going to win and bust on the FT bubble...." ssssiiiggghhh...

I've run this through ICMizer with the exact payouts and some pretty wide ranges for btn open and sb 3b. My first instinct in game was that this was a good spot to jam however, on further inspection and looking at the results it seems that we don't make any money jamming here.. I guess because when we do GII we're not in great shape. I'd imagine when we get called it's something like 88+ AJs+ AQo+ which KJs only has 35% vs.

I can run it through again... Can you guys give me some ranges that you think these pretty agg villains are:

i) opening button i) a. r/jam btn

ii) 3b sb ii) b. 3b/c vs our BB jam.

I'll run the it again and post the results here.

Depends what you have access too and what time of day it is. I think exercise like going for a jog is good for burning off all that excess adrenaline.

Martial arts!!!

Meditating and listening to calming music and reading are all prolly good for quietening down the mind.

Playing for quite a quite a while at this FT and SB seemed pretty lag bad who wasn't adjusting, just constant pounding. I really like this jam spot but wasn't sure if I had any FE and also if it might have been spewy given FT??? IDK - KJs seems pretty strong 3 handed.

Also. What bankroll should a winning 200PLO grinder have? What range from risky to safe?

Thanks

June 5, 2015 | 2:06 p.m.

NLHE has become tough - near impossible. Not easy money any more anyway. By comparison are PLO games much softer & is there a bunch of easy money to be scooped by hard working good poker players willing to spend the time studying and grinding working up the stakes?

What kind of bb/100 do 200PLO players expect to make? How much volume is required to realise edges? (I've heard the games are much more swingy?

Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

When you say "your hand doesn't have enough value" what do you mean? I thought that top pair BVB has very high value vs his range. He could x/c turn with loads of worse 1 pair hands thinking I was floating no? Like he would need to x/c turns with worse than Qx to keep me indifferent to floating flop & bluffing turn 100% of the time.

June 5, 2015 | 1:54 p.m.

June 5, 2015 | 1:52 p.m.

I think he thought I could be floating IF he had a hud and was a reggish thinking player. In game anyway is what I thought. The fact he chose to include the nuts in his c/j range here makes me think he wasn't thinking on that level because why would you c/j nuts (virtual) if you think I'm floating to bluff loads? He'd have to think I had Qx enough & better.

But yeah I see what you're saying, Q7o is kind of the top of our pot controlling range here right? Like we'd want to value bet slightly better? I would think with hearts FD on turn villain would bet his sets & better Qx?

May 29, 2015 | 12:09 p.m.

Felt like he would expect me to float and try to steal on the turn fairly often therefore he could be c/jamming really wide like 1pair, 1pair combo & FDs wide wide....

I think for him to have the nuts in his c/j turn range is really bad imo...

Is like within 10 hands of FT. Villain is competent long term winner.

Generally speaking about opening range, dynamics of table & stack size, what should we be opening here?

Also what line should we be taking post flop? Just feels SOOOO spewy to punt off 40 watever BBs here... Rather than get a "don't do that" I'm trying to get the coneptual understanding of why not to do things and why TO do things.

N.B. stats = vpip/pfr/3b top line. bottom right blue is hands. Top right yellow is BB.

May 21, 2015 | 4:26 p.m.

Hi guys.

After some general discussion & advice about how to approach final tables when we have a top 3 60bb+ stack.

I feel like I'm not clear enough on what our strategy should be. Obviously it's going to be different depending on who's on the FT with us i.e. if the FT is a bunch of fish then it's going to be pretty easy to just open loads put loads of pressure on & run the table over in my experience. Also they just seem to make so many ridic mistakes like 8xing buttons or whatever that we can just wait for golden spots & capitalise.

But what should we be thinking when we get to a final table full of competent reggish types, winning players with lot's of experience and abi's of $30 avg over 1000's of games?

Should we be prepared to just kick back, play passively & try to ladder up as much as possible before we need to change gears again say around 4 handed?

Is our aim to avoid all confrontation, avoid marginal spots like opening ATo UTG for instance, even AJo - What would be your widest range for opening UTG?

My image up to this point for those who were with me on the final 2 table stage was pretty LAG. I know each hand, spot & table is going to be different & we can't apply general rules. But what would be your default foundation thinking/approach/strategy when arriving at a FT as CL w 97bb. Is it leaning more towards NIT NIT NIT & watch the villain's bust one after another while we can patiently wait for clear calling or 3b jamming spots or are you going to open more & try to keep applying pressure?

Any thoughts or feedback appreciated.

May 21, 2015 | 12:36 p.m.

I'm always calling off in these spots. I feel like they are perfect spots for some analysis looking at villain's BB defend range & then what he's jamming. Ranging from villains who will jam their entire range being all FD's, pairs (that they don't 3b pre) & all the 9x they defend & then narrowing the range to villain's who's tendancies get more flatty & passive.

My first instinct is that villains running 21/7 type stats are more of the type to jam their nutted hands. If he had more aggro stats 21/20 type then I think he's more the villain to jam a wider range. Will definitely be interesting see what our equity is like vs 9x only ranging to semibluff & lower pair ranges.
