It depends on what the field size is. If you regularly play tournaments with 300+ players, than yes 500 buy ins is reasonable. However if there is normally 50-100 players it is ridicolous.

Most of us play a little higher than 50c, but just a small amount of people trying to get better using some GTO tacticcs

unfortunately, the best way is just running tuns of hands through ICMizer and reviewing them. It should give you a good understanding over time
