Hi Phil thanks for the video really enjoyed watching it. It made me think more about all my options on the turn.
In the last hand where u flop top set on three flush board three way out of position, I'm a bit confused as to why u think check raise on the turn is better than check call. I can understand the merits u mentioned by check raising ( fold equity and for deception when we river a boat), but isn't top set too strong a hand to turn into a bluff?
Also in general, when or what factors do u consider whether to check call on the turn out of position?

I have adopted a passive pre and aggressive post approch in my live games and has worked really well. As people simply dont fold pre I found being aggro pre is pointless pushing small edges and lose the playability postflop as well (since the pot is so big preflop). I play in Sydney Star Casino 1/2/5. Any thoughts?

I guess it would be hard to realise your equity with a hand that does not flop great. Only thing going for you in the hand is the nut flush potential.
Agreed closing the action multiway preflop call is prob standard. But we put ourself in a situation to play a weak hand OOP.
As you said, I dont really like all our options...

I open on the button and get 3 bet by big blind whose 3 bet is 16%. I decided to call in position.
I flop top pair and OESD. At this point, im never folding against this villian. My question is how should I go with my hand? Is it better to call flop and shove on the turn or raise get in on the flop?
Benefit of just calling is we utilise our position but i dont feel i will get paid once we hit our straight and our hand is kinda face up.

Nice video Sam. I just wanna ask what do you think about 3 betting ranges in live loose passive games in casino, where nobody really folds pre (so after 3 bet and 5 callers there will be no postflop play)? Or is it better to keep the pots small and utilise our postflop and positional advantage?

I struggle with this spot a lot recently. I know I played this hand really bad. When calling a 3 bet oop on A high flop, where we have a A in our hand, I am just really lost as to how to proceed?
I can see the following options:
1) against villian who 3 bet good balanced range (8-10%), we could just fold pre flop; but I feel my hand is a bit too strong to fold?
2)we could 4 bet pre - but my hand does really poorly against a shove; and i dont like 4 bet/fold
3)on the flop, we could check/call; but since villian knows we dont have AAxx (as we already do 4 bet with them), villian could just double barrel very effectivley on A high flops
4)I ended up check/raise the flop - as i really dont like all the other options. Big spew?

This sounds like the game i play in Sydney; mostly loose passive will call any amount to chase whatever draw they have; I would bet close to pot on turn given 2 flush draws; and bet half pot on river hopeing for a crying call; Nice hand.

I agree its not a good hand against AAxx; how about the flop call, is it a close call or clear fold?

Hey Mark
I grind 1/2 on pokerstars but I am only aiming for 100k points. 200k points would be a struggle for me. I am happy to help you through the grind if i can. You would need a lot of motivation to achieve supernova elite. So good luck.

Live 1/2/5 game effective stack 1200
I have AhTdJd5h and 3 bet villian open. Villian in the hand is regular and open very wide and cally in 3 bet pots.
I have position on him and it is an easy 3 bet in my opinion.
He 4 bets and at this stage I am pretty confident he has AAxx (as he rarely 4 bet without). I think 4 bet size is around 300. I call and someone else call, 3 way to the flop. Around 900 in the pot.
Flop - 7h9s3d - I flop nut gut shot and 2 backdoor flush draw
Villian pots flop and I call...
Question: 1) is it a mistake to call the 4 bet given we are pretty sure about his range?
2) is it a mistake to call the flop? ( I think we have just about 30% equity, maybe slightly under EV)
Thanks.

Pretty standard to me. As played I would just shove with little bit more than PSB left. You are just unlucky to run into one of the worst possible hands.
Jan. 3, 2013 | 11:48 a.m.
On the flop i would just cbet and get it in. Your hand is very strong on the flop but not on lots of turns. For that reason, if the flop gets checked throught, on the turns thats not a spade, we would be in tough spot.
As played, i like the lead on the turn. As you said, villain would be less likely to put us on the nut flush.
On the river, I think I would check. Depending on his bet sizing, either c/c or c/f. If he is capable of value bet thin on river with low flush, I would just c/c.
I also dont think we get called by a smaller flush or just a king by shoving river.
