so my journey ends here as Slovakia made some regulations about online poker. We'll see how it goes with poker rooms requesting the licenses, hopefully I'll have chance to get back to this at some point :)
to sum up, I won something like 4BIs over 3.5k hands and started to understand preflop game. I was mostly using PLO matrix to compare my decisions vs what I was supposed to do and this was super helpful for someone switching from NLHE. Highly recommended to all the guys out there making the same transition.

After my first 2k hands, my results look something like this:
nothing much to make of this yet as the sample is super small. In the beginning I was overcalling some non-nut hands OTR and I quickly learnt that this is not the way to play micros :)
I still believe I tend to overcall OOP preflop, which leads to negative redline so I need to focus on preflop play and make sure I'm selecting the right hands to call and picking the right spots to 3b.

So I finally started to play on PLO5 on Stars yesterday as RIO hasn’t opened PLO4 lobbies yet and I really want to play all the way at the bottom before getting comfortable with the new format. Wanted to play on MPN first, but as I couldn’t register on 32red poker (something wrong with their registration form) and deposit window on RedKings didn’t load for me, I just stayed on the site I know the most (despite higher rake). Plan is to move to RIO as soon as I grow my roll.
When it comes to studying, I’m still reading donkr’s PLO from Scratch and going over all the hands in the forums from micro and low stakes PLO.
At the moment I’m something like 2BIs down, some of it me overplaying non-nut hands and making beginner’s mistakes and some of it losing over 100BB stack with underfull to quads vs LAG player OOP (maybe overplayed hand :D ). Will post some hands over the next days when I’m back from my business trip.
Gl at the tables in the meantime!

Hi guys,
my name is Matej and I come from Slovakia. I have been around poker for around 7 years now across multiple formats. Most of my experience comes from HU SnGs and Spins and couple of years ago I was quite successful in playing 45 and 180man SnGs. Occasionally, I also play low buy-in live MTTs. However, I never really get to any "interesting" limits, due to various reasons (wanted to play it all, lack of commitment, job/personal life getting into way etc.), which I'm definitelly not happy about.
I have been lurking around Pot Limit Omaha for some time. Basically, no matter what my main game was, I was always thinking about making a full switch into PLO, which never happened. This year I decided to "reset" my approach to the game (i.e. trying to put most of the hours after work or during the weekends into playing spins, which didn't even work as I kinda burnt out and poker was not that fun for me anymore) and I see this as a perfect opportunity to look into PLO, learn the concepts and slowly master the game with no rush.
This definitely won't be a true full-time grinder's PG&C, more of a laid back, bringing fun of poker back into my life while learning a new format.
I'm going to start all the way at the bottom and will follow BRM approach from donkr's series and see where it gets me.
- $5PLO to $10PLO:Grind in 20 BI ($100) at $5PLO and build the roll to 50+10 BI ($350) for a shot at $10PLO.
- $10PLO to $25PLO:Grind in 40 BI ($400) at $10PLO and build the roll to 50+10 BI ($750) for a shot at $25PLO.
- $25PLO to $50PLO:Grind in 40 BI ($1000) at $25PLO and build the roll to 50+10 BI ($1750) for a shot at $50PLO.
- $50PLO to $100PLO:Grind in 35 BI ($1750) at $50PLO and build the roll to 50+10 BI ($3500) for a shot at $100PLO.
- $100PLO to $200PLO:Grind in 35 BI ($3500) at $100PLO and build the roll to 50+10 BI ($7000) for a shot at $200PLO.
When it comes to study materials, I'm looking into some of the free resources that are available + read the book that was sitting on my shelf for ages: Jeff Hwangs Pot Limit Omaha (even though I saw a comment somewhere on RIO to avoid it like a plague :D), which provided a good foundation for preflop hand selection and tighter postflop play. Eventually I plan to purchase the Essential Membership here and go through the learning path.
I'm still not 100% decided about the site to play at. Currently I'm thinking about several possibilities:
Start learning a new game with a new poker site to play on, as RIOP is launching tomorrow (potential cons: the rake might be too high for a PLO beginner as it will be harder to adjust properly for STP + the player pool might be skewed towards regs as I assume those will be the ones playing there from the beginning....BUT I loved the play during the test I participated in, the software is just great and I don't like to move between the sites too often. I might even participate in StreamR to share my progress and talk about the game aloud occasionally).
Start on MPN with a low rake (potential cons: read somewhere the games might be way too tight and reg infested, so the benefits from lower rake diminishing and I don't really like the software).
Just go and play on PS/PP ignoring the micro rake structure for now
Will be happy for any ideas about the possibilities above! :)
I will try to keep this thread updated, sharing the progress and links to problematic hands posted in Low PLO forums.
Gl at the tables!

learning Omaha after some break from poker altogether due to the regulations in my country + transitioning from NLHE and I must say I enjoyed this video a lot. Great job!
