Hi guys,

By way if background, I am a mid 20s poker player, former investment banker/professional athlete and crypto enthusiast. Currently in the midst of applying to MBA programs this coming fall for the class of 2021.

Just wanted to document my play in the 200z and 500z pools. I play as hazeman1991 from New Zealand. The idea of this thread is to have accountability in my play and to make sure I am following a correct through process.

I have been winning at 200z for a while comfortably at 6.5bb/100 over the last little while and break even to 2bb/100 in the 500z pool (all over 150k hand samples). I am going to test this and see if I can bump this up to 7,5bb/100 and 3.5bb/100 in each pool respectively without much table selecting. Obviously I know it is important to table select but I am also in for a battle! I know some friends that table select very hard in 500z and win at 6.5-7.5bb/100.

This thread won't be to berate or reg bash anyone as I am more guilty than anyone of making ridiculous plays!

My study materials include RIO, PIO and other courses.

Will also be firing up on twitch from time to time to just play a bit slower and talk through my thought process. Have tried a few practice streams just to get used to etc. www.twitch.com/zoneofpain91

Update 10/02/2015

Hi team, a quick update from me.

Played a 3 hour session last night and played pretty well, picking right spots and making good folds at 50NL (4-6 tables). Was reasonably quiet at one point and so had to replace one table into 100NL.

At one point up about 5-6 buy ins which I was happy about and winning many small pots and one or two reasonably big pots.

I then started getting sucked out/super sick spots where I had top set and got all in on the turn vs over pair etc where I am OK about losing. I was playing EV+. I think at one point I was up 200USD and EV+ of 700 lol.

I got to the point of being down 300, mixture of being sucked out and tilting.

  1. My question for RIO team is how you guys deal with BRM? i.e. when do you have stop losses? do you look at your account number as this may/may not affect how you play. Any practical tips?

Cheers!

Update: 07/02/2015

  1. I played the Big 33 the other day and came 50/10XX so pretty happy about that. Made some good calls and won some flips like AK vs 10,10 etc. I made ITM reasonably comfortably and have been learning to "change" gears a bit better and picking spots when to be aggressive etc. I've made ITM the money a few times now but still haven't quite made any final tables. Hopefully time will tell.

  2. Played some 25NL as I had made a big withdrawl and didn't have a big bank roll to play my normal 50 and 100NL. Didn't run well and tried to bluff spots that I thought many would fold. My observation was that people were struggling to fold top pair? Are there any suggestions in this area?

Cheers!

  1. First question - Any coaches that you guys would recommend for general NLHE at my level? I have watched Sauce, Espen, Simon Coulding, ERA7ER, Tyler Forester. Or are there any PARTICULAR videos you guys could point out?

Cheers!

Hi RIO team!

I hope this is in the right section.

I have been an Elite member for a few months now and have taken every opportunity to watch as many Elite and Essential videos on RIO. Some of my favourites include Sauce, Tyler, ERA7ER, Espen for (MTT's) to name a few.

I would say I am a recreational player putting in 10-12 hours a week as I work full time as a financial analyst.

Some of the games that I play are 50NL and 100NL Zoom and below on Stars, cash on other sites and MTT's

Results to date:

1, Slight/break even winning rate on 50NL Zoom (Over 40k hands) I have recently been able to turn a profit after first 10K hands were losses.
2. Slight losing playing on 100NL and have only taken stabs (20k hands) I have run reasonably well in the last 10k of hands to decrease losses
3. Break even on 50NL cash games (50k hands in the last 3 months to be a winning player in the last month or two)
4. I play LIVE cash at my local casino (Winning player playing 400NL Live where the level is probably 10NL at most)
5. Best tournament result is min cashed in Sunday Millions in the $5m GTD in Dec 2014 and have cashed several times in Buy Ins of less than $50 dollars on Stars.

2015 Goals

1, Winning player on 50NL Zoom, taking reasonable stabs at 100NL that I can feel comfortable
2. Winning player on 50NL cash
3. Play more MTTs and Live Poker.
4. Total $10k to take to Melbourne end of year to grind cash and to top up with my savings to play there.

Plan

  1. I am lucky that I have poker friends to chat to every week.
  2. Watch two RIO videos a week
  3. Post on my journal once a week and get a bit of feedback

Would love to hear what everyone thinks and please feel free to give any constructive feedback or criticisms.

Really appreciate the close knit community we have here at RIO and would love to be able to buy a RIO t shirt/cap soon! hint hint Phil

Cheers team

Hi Simon, really enjoying your videos!

First hand with the flopped set but a flush draw on the board.

If the turn completed the flush, and your opponent barrels again, how likely are you to call it off if he bets say (half pot or 2/3, pot) given that you have about 10 outs to pair the board or get quads? I am finding myself in that situation where its hard to fold a flush even though i know there is a flush draw.

Cheers!

Hi Espen,

I am really enjoying your videos and a big congratulations on your two big results! I am also considering potentially being a MTT player.

I know this is only the later end of the tournament so I was hoping you can please comment on your tournament strategy in a tournament like this say splitting, early game, mid game and late game. Possibly commenting on ranges, calling All In, and a general overview for big tournaments like this.

Also do you know any other videos/good materials for studying and playing MTTs

Thank you!
