appears that philbort has a starting stack and is new to the table, wants to set the tone early with a hand that plays itself, meaning he'll make a try or two to steal the pot and shutdown afterwards.

On other forums I constantly see advice that I believe is wrong, most particularly on p5. Perhaps my opinion is incorrect but it's so frequent that either:
a) intentionally providing incorrect advice to be more profitable
b) players who believe in taking the most aggressive and highest variance tactics imaginable

I agree that villain is rarely going to make this play so wide 2 hands in a row, especially since the shove has fold out BB and the BTN raise, unless they're a total drooler. It's just too likely we will be inclined to want to make a call even wider than normal.
Even though this is a virtual equity flip against a wide 3bet shoving range, i've just always been in the camp that there's some merit to folding away the 2BB and getting in a steal or resteal to recover these lost BB and having fold equity rather than calling all-in at the bottom of my range. I tend to only go with the bottom of my ranges with lower effective stacks (< 15BB) or close to blind increases for obvious reasons.

i'm comfortable calling when i feel my hand has an edge over their range. i'm not a nit by any means but i rather avoid slightly ahead/way behind scenarios calling off 20BB. just curious what others think. this is not a call for me unless a blind is shoving steals at a high rate. this was just an instance of two back to back hands and while this wasn't a situation i was faced with, it was one i observed as the button snap called it which i felt was a leak

hero would typically flat A4,A5,44-99,67,78,68 or possibly 2 overs since the price is cheap. villain looks committed with a pot building raise so i'd put him on complete air or a semi-bluff combo draw. with hero's fold equity taken away he may end up checking the turn and river which allows hero to bluff out any of villain's missed draws that still win at showdown (we have 7 high) so flatting wouldn't be terrible since we're unlikely to fold any turn bet

on WPN the BIG 10 tournies have a favorable structure for TAG (5k and 15 min levels) and they seem to be more consistent with deeper finishes

Great idea.

4 betting should at minimum should fold out hands like 88,99,AT/AJ and maybe even AQ that wouldn't play well vs our range unless they flop set/2pr
and it becomes a range play to not allow us the be exploited by wider 3 betsJan. 5, 2014 | 2:55 p.m.
I ran the ICM for this situation and giving 14% 3bet and 14% cold call, we need JJ+/AK+ as a profitable shove with a calling range of 99+/AQ+ for CO and JJ+/AK+ for SB. Like you, I don't like 4bet/call because villain shouldnt have any worse A in his range. Calling is certainly an option

2.3% 3bet over 400 hands is well within "the tightest of SB"
