Hey, newbie and first time poster here. Thanks in advance for any and all input, as I'm not totally sure what I should be looking at in analyzing my hands. Anyway, OTH:
50NL Ignition (so we have little information on villain) 6-max.
Villain seems to be a competent player who opens on the lighter side with 2.5x, likes to 3bet, and plays quite aggressively postflop. I noted early on that he was caught firing 3 barrel bluffs when he had position. Other than a couple losses here and there, he was running over the table, showing few hands and getting value on made hands. Villain has the effective stack size of $73.
PREFLOP:
Hero finds himself on the BTN with JdJc
MP opens to $1.50
Hero 3bets to $4.50
Villain 4bets to $10 in the BB
MP folds
Hero calls
FLOP: 5dTh3d
~$20 in the pot
Villain bets $7
Hero calls
TURN: 5c
~$34 in the pot
Villain bets ~$12
Hero calls
RIVER: Td
~$56 in the pot
Villain bets $27
Hero calls
I feel like one hell of a calling station the way the hand played out. Did I overplay JJ? How could I have played the hand differently to optimize my equity in the long term? Despite villain being a LAG, the 4bet preflop sent alarm bells ringing. Villain easily has QQ+ & AdKd here, right? On the other hand, did I miss a raise?
So preflop would you opt to fold or 4bet more often than not? Thank you for your response.
