If we're playing 50BB stack depth in cash games, how would you adjust your opening ranges?
My immediate thought would be to remove some of the lower suited connectors (eg 76s) as they don't play as well in showdown-oriented poker and their value increases drastically as stacks grow?
How would hands like KJ or A7s fall in this categorization? What other types of adjustments would you make?

Hero in BB. UTG straddle to $10
MP (80bb) makes it $15 (been falling asleep at table all day, known bad player in room and unaware of straddle). Next to act (250bb) calls. He's been playing tons of pots vs MP.
Hero has Kc 9c. Calls additional $10 (200bb). Whale in straddle (40bb) calls.
Flop ($60): Qc Tc 7o.
Hero checks. Straddle, MP check. 250bb villain bets $35. Hero calls. Remaining villains fold.
Turn: Ko
Hero x/c $80
River: Ko
Hero checks. Villain bets $175. Hero calls.
Villain has been one of the more aggressive at the table but he hasn't shown any hands down so no real tells if he is smashing deck or if he is wild. Initial read is that he seems to be pretty sharp and aware of things.
Any problem with line through the hand?

Thoughts on this spot?
Presumed fish (bought in for $164.93) at $200nl sits down and posts his bb.
UTG (100bb) opens 3x. Hero flats button with 9c9h. Presumed fish bumps it to $26. UTG flats.
What do we prefer to do here?

Thanks for the feedback.
FWIW, this is at a readless table on Bovada so I guess I'm looking for input on what the theoretically sound line is.
Dec. 17, 2015 | 2:12 p.m.
I would like thoughts on a common spot I face where and hear input on whether they are false coolers or if they are indeed situations that I should just shrug off as bad luck and move on.
Effective stacks are 100bb (no reads).
MP limps
Hero (CO) Jc Jh opens to 4x
BTN 3bets to 12x
MP folds, Hero Calls.
Flop (26.50bb): 6s 3o 2s
Hero x/c 13bb
Turn (53bb): 4d
Hero x/c 25bb
River (103bb): 2c
Hero checks. Villain shoves. Hero calls. Villain shows AA
Is taking a check/call line on these types of boards with TT, JJ suicide? Am I better off just getting it in on Flop/Turn so the Ace-Kings can't play perfectly on the River?
Dec. 16, 2015 | 8:08 p.m.
Hero just sat down, second hand at six max $200NL table, so Hero in SB. No reads or history with any of the players.
What do you think is the optimal default line in this spot?
100bb deep
Folded around to Hero with 66o
Hero 3x, BB defends.
Flop Tx 6s 5o
Hero x/c 3.5bb
Turn 4s
Hero checks. Villain bets 8bb. Hero x/r 26bb.
Thoughts?

Thanks for the reply and input.
I'm curious in the CO vs HJ scenario, what types of suited hands would you call in this spot?
Also - could you give me a sense of what sorts of VPIP/PFR/3b % you think are optimal? I've always thought that 23/20/10 would be good "target" numbers to be within reason but seem to struggle to get my 3b percentage high enough.
Dec. 9, 2015 | 8:11 p.m.
Sorry - I mean 6max, so UTG+1 = MP
In 1a are we 3b bluffing bc of card removal? KQ blocks combos of AK/AQ that are in UTG open range?
Dec. 9, 2015 | 6:48 p.m.
I thought it might be interesting to take some general spots that we all encounter at the tables and to create some dialogue on what you feel is the optimal play. If this structure of a thread is helpful, I'll try to do a few more in the future to spur discussion, comments, and feedback.
I'll start with three basic preflop spots. For simplicity, we'll assume these are entirely readless tables (so ZONE games on Bovada). As a result, we'd be leaning towards more GTO concepts and play than exploitative.
Many of these spots are quite basic for advanced players but I think it would be a helpful way to get the ball rolling for novice and beginners.
All games are six-handed.
1. 100bb effective: Villain opens UTG 3x and Hero is next to act.
a.) What do you do with KQo?
b.) What do you do with AJo?
c.) What do you do with KQs?
2. 100bb effective: Villain opens UTG+1 3x and it is folded to Hero in SB.
a.) What do you do with KQo?
b.) What do you do with ATs?
3. 100bb effective: Villain opens HJ 3x and Hero is in CO.
a.) What do you do with 98s?
b.) What do you do with AQo?

$50NL ZONE so no reads.
This is a common spot I struggle with and I'm not sure if this is a spew. Thoughts?
Eff stacks 100bb
Hero opens UTG+1 TT 3x
MP 3bets to 9x
Hero calls.
Flop 752r
Hero x/c 11bb
Turn: 6o
Hero x/c 23bb (should I be x/f TT here in these positions?)
River: 8o
Hero checks. Villain Jams.
I feel obligated to call in these spots w/o reads but seem to always get whacked by JJ-AA. I was hoping to get some discussion or other's thoughts on general strategies in these spots where there are no reads.
Has there been any past discussions or in-depth analysis on ranges for these games?

Thoughts on my play BvB?
200 bb deep at $0.50/$1.00 ZONE Anonymous on Bovada.
Hero dealt 5d 2d in the SB.
Folded around and Hero 4x. BB 3bets to 12 and hero calls.
Flop Qc 9d 6d
Hero x/c 15
Turn (54) 4c
Hero x/c 33
River (120) 5h
Hero x/f
In hindsight, I feel like I should be check-raising this Flop as I only have 5-high. Any input or guidance would be really appreciated.
Dec. 3, 2015 | 3:17 p.m.
No reads. Bovada Anonymous games.
Hero dealt JhTh in MP, opens 3x.
BTN (65 BBs) calls, SB and BB call as well.
Flop (12): 9h 7h 6c
Hero bets 9, BTN calls. SB and BB fold.
Turn (30): Kh
Hero bets 16
BTN calls.
River (62): 3h
What are you doing on the River? Villain has 37 behind. Do we value bet? Do we check-call?
Dec. 3, 2015 | 3:14 p.m.
Readless game on ZONE.
Hero in BB with JhTc and defend vs 2.5x BTN open.
Flop Ks Qc 6d
Hero x/c 3/4 pot bet.
Turn 3c
Check Check
River 2c
Hero bets 1.8x pot.
Thoughts on this river sizing? I've been trying to experiment with overbets some more and am trying to grasp the right times to deploy it.

I'm looking to really learn and practice how to construct ranges in different spots and analyzing frequencies, etc. How would you suggest the best method would be to start this approach, get acclimated to the process, and start building ranges and understanding things like this?
Sept. 7, 2015 | 3:40 p.m.
Glad to see RIO prioritizing non-NLHE/PLO games. Great addition!
July 26, 2015 | 11:40 p.m.
Bovada ZONE so no reads. SB and BB are both full-stacked - effective 120bb stacks.
Hero opens 3BB Qs Js from CO
SB 3bets to 11.5BB. BB Calls. Hero Calls.
Flop 33.5BB: Ks 9s 3h
SB bets 23 BB. BB Folds. Hero Calls.
Turn Kc
SB checks. Hero ??
Is this a spot Hero should be jamming? Or is it a good spot to check-back and realize our equity?
July 22, 2015 | 4:59 p.m.
Typical 2/5 live game.
Hero ($300) is on BTN and is dealt Ah Ac Ad 8c
Two limps ahead of Hero. Both players have Hero covered. Hero limps along as well.
BB pots it to $30. Both limpers call.
Hero repots it.
Any opinion on the repot here?
July 12, 2015 | 10:10 p.m.
Looks good.
July 9, 2015 | 7:06 p.m.
Excellent post.
July 9, 2015 | 2:50 p.m.
I'm giving up by Turn
July 9, 2015 | 2:49 p.m.
Having Top-Pair meh kicker is a pretty good candidate to protect our check-calling range on this board-texture in a HJ v CO spot.
July 8, 2015 | 9:24 p.m.
I think turn call is a little ambitious, but if I'm calling T I'm definitely calling R
July 7, 2015 | 9:25 p.m.
What are his agg frequencies on each street?
Readless, I fold.
July 7, 2015 | 7:17 p.m.
River definitely a bet given we bet Turn.
I think x/c T x/c R is another option as well.
July 7, 2015 | 7:16 p.m.
Inclined to fold this pre but it's probably not that big either way.
As played I call T, x/f River
July 7, 2015 | 7:11 p.m.
Bet somewhere between $4-$5.50.
July 7, 2015 | 7:10 p.m.
One point I disagree with.
The PGA is unique in that it is an elite fraternity. It is an exclusive membership that provides access to weekly events with literally millions of dollars at stake. If you aren't eligible for one of the large Tours, you don't have the privilege to these prizepools. You literally can't make the same living off-tour by grinding mini-tours or hustling local country clubs. Getting permanently banned from the Tour for some rules infraction would be an ENORMOUS opportunity cost.
Poker is different. It is open enrollment. Between online and brick and mortar rooms, you have access to make a good (or even great) living.
Imagine if there was a private poker tour with weekly 7-figure purses. Players put up a very nominal fee to enter events and the overlay is provided by sponsors. On this tour, the slightest potential breach of etiquette or rules infraction (example: anything that could be misconstrued as an angle) could result in a ban or revocation of eligibility for future events. Do you think poker players would be extremely anal of every little rule?
I'm not suggesting the sole motivation of self-policing golfers is this, but it is a factor that is largely ignored. Afterall, golf is a game rich in tradition and its self-policing is a major point of pride in the sport. But Obst's comparison is a little apples to oranges when comparing poker to pro golf. Pro golfers need the Tour much more than a poker player may need PokerStars or the WSOP.

Thanks!

As played it's fine.
What do we think of PF 4b here? I think it's a good candidate.
I prefer call OTF.
