I find myself in these situations often in the 5NL and 10NL games I play. I want to extract value from maniacs but it's difficult when they can show up with any two. Maniac in question had a small sample size, 35 hands, but VPIP 58/PFR 10. I want to say he's playing a lot of hands but only raising pre with the best of them, but that's not the case. Hand before this saw him raising 39o and calling on the river with air.
