This is very sad. What a remarkable life that man had. I'm extremely impressed with how he learned to deal with his illness and contribute so greatly to our society.

Trivial question, but: How will you create flash-cards out of the randomizer? Or will you not actually use flash-cards but rather just look it up if you feel "this may be close" and trust your intuition on the other answers?

Two weeks is obviously ridiculous, but given that Colman is the absolute #1 in his chosen form of poker it would not be surprising if he could become a winner within months.

Don't forget. He also play the highest 75bb husng games.

It is also very common for cashgame players to feel like they are way above husng players when it comes to poker theory and that they can just waltz in there and beat the highest stakes, so it goes both ways.

When it comes to very accessible and easy to read/understand "game-theory for poker" material i definitely suggest The Intelligent Poker Player by Phil Newall.
Yes, it is about fixed limit, but it does a great job of showing how to approach poker and how the game is built. In many ways i think fixed limit may be the best game to showcase these concepts for a novice.

What are those reasons AF3?

I have yet to read MOP, but when it comes to toy games is there any better material out there? Expert HUNL may be more practical but that is because they use a different approach. Toy Games may be more suitable at times? I don't know, that's why i'm wondering.

Absolutely SayonotoKlaus. The only difference is that the ranges will be much wider headsup.

Malta + social engineering to become friends with Isaac Haxton = win

Honestly though, i think Malta fits all your needs.

Ok i gave you all a chance to save yourself from a future PLO-killer.
I'll go towards the journey of mastering PLO and i'll see you at midstakes this fall!

More "how to study" off the tables with PLO.
Preferably something similar to what Sauce did with his Toy-gaming series, or Leforts theory videos.
Also more in depth odds oracle videos.

Hello there, folks at RIO!

I'm on the verge of dedicating a lot of hours studying and playing poker.
I'm a "beginner" with some fundamental understanding of holdem theory. I have probably played around 100k hands.

I had the idea of first starting to learn poker while playing NL holdem and my plan was to convert to PLO in about 6 months to a year allowing me to both fund future PLO learning (coaching, Tom Chambers book, pokerjuice etc) but also to be able to start playing PLO50 rather than PLO10 given the rake is supposedly terrible.

I also thought that this would give me the chance to learn poker theory using a more manageable game than that of PLO.

I have a feeling i will enjoy PLO slightly more but it also seem to have a huge upside when it comes to potential earning for my thousands of hours of study.

So with this in mind, here are my questions.

1: Am i right in thinking this? Is it advisable to learn poker via holdem rather than plo?

2: Given that i want to go the PLO route within a year, would i be better off just going with it now instead of laying some groundworks in an "easier game"?

3: I very much enjoy the idea of GTO. Is the application of toy-games prevalent and suitable for PLO study?

4: If i go with PLO now, would RIO videos + forums, bugs articles, odds oracle + pokerjuice be the optimal route if i'm not interested in coaching? Would you add or remove anything?

5: Learnedfromtv / Tom Chambers book cost over $2k. Anyone here read it? Is it something i should spend some money on down the road?

Hopefully you can give me some time and get me going!

I'd really recommend anything sthief spits out, but other than that DC does not have much to offer anymore. Unfortunately.

I signed up for Cardrunners today and it's seemingly the same situation. :(

Thank the spaghetti-monster for RIO.

Thanks a bunch for the answers!

I do not have a background in math but i find the topic interesting and would definitely be willing to learn what is needed.

In regards to mathematics of poker (the book) i suspect i wont need to understand ALL the math but mostly take their word for it? As in i can use the conclusions to get some glimpse into proper poker theory? Am i wrong in thinking this?

I'd actually like to rephrase my question to make it clearer.

Would i be better of learning about and studying toy games to learn to build my strategy/ranges, or would i be better off doing something like what Janda does in his book. Figure out a threshold for not letting your opponent profit betting any two and use that as an argument for being balanced?

Note again that i'm a microstakes-player, but i'm more interesting in understanding poker and building my understanding for the game rather than "do what is best at the micros".

Thanks again! Best poker-community by far and i have only been here for 2 days.

Hi RIO community!

Background: Have been following online-poker and played sporadically since the boom. Just recently gotten to take it seriously as it has become my number 1 hobby (and i'm quite obsessive over my interests).
I know basic poker-theory (i have read the poker blueprint.. did not care for it much).

I'm playing NLHE 6max, micro-stakes.

I'm going to spend this summer digging deep to get a stronger theoretic background and try to play around 100k hands to apply my newfound knowledge.

I am an elite-member (put 1/3 of my roll on it!)

With this in mind, which of the books in my title would you recommend? I was going to read Jandas book as it seems to be more practical than the other, but then again both Sauce and Lefort seems to mention MOP in every video. :)
I have also read some criticism towards Jandas book because it "simplifies poker too much".

The book of choose will be my study material for the summer together with all of leforts and sauces videos and a few of Galfonds videos. Does this sound like a good plan or would you recommend a different route?

Would love some input, thanks!

(sorry for the long post, i am not a native English speaker)

Thanks again Aleksandra, that is very nice of you to offer.
My game for now is NLHE because i feel it may be a better platform for me to learn poker theory on. PLO may be in my future though!

Thank you for the suggestions Aleksandra. I love this place, just a little bit of getting used to a different platform!

Hi there!

I try to sort a users post by "most liked" but it does not give me the wanted result.
I was under the impression it would be sorted by the most "hearts"? Is this not the case?

I have tried multiple users and i still get a very mixed result and it does not seem to follow any kind of pattern.

I'd like to either know how this function is supposed to work or if there's some other way to sort it to get the desired result. (i tried this after watching Ben Sulskys first video where he shows how you can sort his posts by "most liked" to get a feel for how he thinks about poker)

Thank you!
