I would like to hear what you decided and where you are now.
I personally do not think you need a lot of buy-ins for live cash. Like others have suggested shot taking is the best method.
Also, would like to know actually how much tougher a 2/4 game can be over a 1/3 game. At all casinos I go to the games are not significantly tougher at menial buy-in increases.
Similar to you I used to only play 200NL live. And the games were tough because the rake was eating the BB per hour. I was forced one night to move to a 2/5 game because we only had 4 players left to play 1/2. The shot was the best decision I made, I now only play 1/2 while waiting for a 2/5 seat and the best players at my casinos continuously tell me to try 5/5 or 5/10. I made 42k in 2015 playing poker and am now focusing on online for better time management. I averaged about 15 hours a week this year playing poker.
I had a conversation with xflix team poker stars pro about live poker and adequate buy ins as I was looking to play 5/5 or 5/10. He said that you do not need 20-50 buy ins to take a stab if it is not your career. You can use 20 buy-ins at current level plus 2.5 buy ins for a shot. Which you are way over.
Again, this is relative to your personal career vs. poker career. We have no idea what your threshold is for earnings before poker is your career. If 9k is a game changer than I would suggest 40+ buy ins at current level to then take a shot. If that number is 100k a year then you probably do not want to spend as much time playing 1/2 as you would on your working career.

I sent you a message on Skype to have a discussion.
Great video Chris!
I look forward to using this when reviewing my tournaments to improve my game.
I also agree that maybe a question to take home would be nice. Just to confirm theory sticks.
Thank you for the help on improving!
