WM2K can you explain to me a little more how i would target weakers ranges by opening mine up a more?

basically im grinding 1, 2 to build a bankroll and pretty much as a job right now. its been my main source of income for a year now and i have been doing really well playing a ultra nit style. the 1,2 game where im from is really soft and no one pays attention to ranges and balancing ect... litteratly i can seat there for 2 hours fold everything then open a pot x8 bb and get 5 callers and there clueless of my holding or range. and the players are so weak most of the time they hit top pair and hang on for life, not thinking about ranges, or deep level of thought process whatso ever. i know my style would not work in bigger games where the thinking gets deeper, but for 200NL live it has worked for me for a year now. i play around 40 hrs a week making 4000$-5000$ a month.

Hi guys im a live 200NL player and got in an interesting spot today where I had flopped a set OOP and got in trouble.

Im a super tight 11/18 regular at the room and villain is also very tight experienced player.

stack sizes.

Hero (CO): 450$

Villain (button):700$

UTG: 500$

BB: 700$

straddle hand and a tight player UTG opens for 21$, hero holds 4c4s and calls in CO, Button flats and BB flats aswell.

4 way to the flop with 90$ in pot. Board is 4h 5d 7d BB checks, UTG original raiser checks and I tank and before I act button places a bet and the dealers pauses action because I hadn't acted yet and he pulls his bet back, (I was initially going to lead out before I noticed this.) so I decided to check and see what the two be hide do before I act.) so villain continues his betting and dices out 35$. BB calls, and UTG flats aswell. I tank and raise to 210$ leaving myself with 215$ for a turn ship. villain tanks for a minutes and doesn't looks comfortable with my raise. he eventually flats the raise and BB and UTG fold.

Turn is Kc

now im in a awkward spot because I really can t put this player on much else but a set of 55, 77. he is very tight preflop range so I really don't put any 6,8 - 6,3 combos for straights in his range. only hand I can beat is his diamond draws.

left with not much else to do I ship and he tanks and makings some grunting sounds as he  mutters.. straights... and then calls.

River is a 2h

I show set of 44 he shows set of 55.

any thoguhts on how I can play this differently or get away from this hand or just some discussion in general about the play and situation would be greatly appreciated. Just a cooler or is this a spot I can get away without losing my whole stack?

This was a live hand at 200NL so I don't have stats.

background info: hero is a tight 14/8 regular. villain is also a tight player he is a pro his main game is MTTs and 500NL.

Hero starts hand with 450$
villain starts hand with 420$.

at a fairly tight passive table, mid position opens the pot at 10$ CO calls, villain calls on the button and Hero calls in sb with 8c8s and BB completes.

5 way to the flop with 51$ in pot.

flop comes 8c9sJc, hero checks, original raiser checks, CO checks and villain bets 25$ on the button. Hero raises to 80$ everyone folds back to villain. who tanks for half a minute and ships it for 300$ ontop of the 80.

Villain is a very tight player who doesn't get out of line with any of his draws and would not take this line with any of his draw range including combo draws.

I tank folded because 80% of the range he shows up in this spot with has me beat. only combos I have beat are his two pair combos.

Im looking for some opinions on the overall hand what would you do differently and would you fold In this spot?

If you say he turns a lot of his hands which have showdown value into bluffs and is a semi creative player then I would say you can add a lot of draws into his betting range once you checked off flop. and once you bet the river super small he could perceive it as a blocker bet with a KQ, AK, or QQ and exploit this by turning lots of his range into bluffs. 88 - QQ, AQc - A2c, all complete air hands that don't want to give up. all sets, straights, two pairs, ect are raising for value. I like a check call line on the River you still get value from lots of his bluffs, and you don't get yourself in the spot your in where he could easily have lots of two pairs sets, straight ect.. The only possible downfall of check the river back is losing value from a his showdown value range (88-QQ) but considering his tendencys to turn these hands into bluffs, I would just check call riv to avoid the situation your in. All in all your hand has 60% equity against his range and your pot odds are around 33% so mathematically you should call.

If your fairly new to the game I would recommend starting with Phil Gordans Little Green book. very good for people who are just getting into the game and don't understand concepts and reasoning behind the decisions made. He also has a blue book for basics on tournament play and a gold book which is more advanced and talks more about ranges and the deeper math to the game.

I just wanted to see what peoples thoguht were on if this is 100% a call or for some it might be a fold. but giving the scenrio which i had no info on the players and vise versa. i think it is always a call. As you said, I dont want to lose value from hands like AQ or overplayed draws

Yeah so i figured. i wasnt down about it at all just part of the variance of the game. My main focus and goal on going into my session today was to not let anyting effect my mental state of A game or emotions at the table. so when i had this beat I was mentally prepared and didnt feel anything of it. its just part of the variance in the game and you need to be able to expect that and not get upset over beat like these.

1/2 NL live my second hand at the table so i had no info on players stats.

I get KdKc in small blind on a straddled pot. 2 limpers. I raise to 25$ bb calls, straddled calls and utg+1 calls.

I started the hand with 185$, BB had 600$ straddle had 450$

Flop comes Jd Qs 2h 100$ in pot. I continue out for 60$ leaving myself 110$ behind. bb folds and straddled tanks for a minute before raising 100$ more. Utg+1 fold and its back to me.

I wanted to hear some opinions on how i played this hand so far and if this is an obvious call or debatable a fold. Keep in mind i have no info on players they have no info on me. 2nd hand played at the table.

Results: i called he showed JJ for mid set.

I have just joined this site today so correct me if I'm wrong but there is no tab for live poker analysis.

Having a tab for this would be nice and could feature sections such as body language or tells and memorizing tendencies/ live stats. Also would be nice to here some talk to hands played by people in Live situations which have more aspects to take into consideration. With all this technology and programs for online poker these days it really makes it a different game than live in my opinion.

Thoughts? Agree or disagree?
