is 3bet folding an option that A9 hand?

Hi Jarekkowalewski, thanks for the question. In the hand against Eisenhower where he calls my all in w AT i do think that 3 betting with the plan to fold is an option worth exploring. Our hand is fairly strong in relative value, especially considering Eisenhower's button open range so this is the immediate reason I decided to shove instead, but if I did 3 bet I would imagine he wouldn't shove a very wide range but he potentially could shove some hands that he would have to fold to a shove for ICM reasons. I do think its possible he would shove some small pairs (however i believe he open shoves most small pairs with his stack size), and some hands like A3s-A5s, KQ with a reasonable frequency since he is a very strong opponent and knows this is a great spot for us to put pressure on him and those hands would do fairly well against our calling range. This would be very bad for us if he is shoving these hands, considering that he likely won't be calling a shove with these hands so 3 betting with the plan to fold would be losing us chips in the long run. However, if we know he's only shoving the top of his range against our 3 bet than we can feel quite confident in taking this line, the problem is I'm not sure if this is the case.

ICM is such an important consideration for our opponent at this stage, so he really wants to avoid spots where he is at risk for all his chips if possible especially if he feels he has a skill advantage over the rest of the field. For this reason there aren't many combos of hands he can call a shove with and given the fact that I have an A blocker it makes it even less likely he's strong enough to call a shove. This is the reason I ultimately decided to put him to the decision of calling for all his chips, but I can also see an argument for taking the 3 bet route. Obviously if he folds in the hand I feel like I made the right play, and if he calls than I start questioning my decision. It's funny how much we let results decide whether or not the decision was the right one at the time. I'd be curious to hear others thoughts on this specific situation.

Very nice video; to me, this is my favorite kind of video: 1 table with straightforward analysis of the VPIPed hands.....excellent instruction, more like this please.

Thanks, I try to also focus on other important aspects of poker other than just hand history review but I feel this style is great for instruction. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
