Hi,
96o hand from BB at the start of the video, you say you would like to c/r bluff this spot because there will be many turns to barrel. So the turns you would be looking to barrel are T and hearts and ofc 7 but are there any other turn cards you would be barreling? Im un sure about turns A and K, they kinda don't hit villains calling range too much I guess and we could fold and but pressure on many hands from he's c/r calling range but not sure. Also if we brl A and K then feels we barreling too much? Would appreciate your'e feedback.
Hey Andres, thanks for the question. The reason why I like check raising this board is that there are many hands in my preflop range that may want to do so. A good amount of value (88, 55, Q5, Q8, strong Qx) and combo draws. Good turn cards for me would be card that complete possible gutshots and probably hearts. I could definitely make a reasonable sized check raise here (2.5-3x) and then fire a not too huge bet on some favorable turn cards (40% or so) and still give up on some blanks. I think if I do it every time the spot arises then it would be too often. You are right in that Ax or Kx wouldnt be the best cards for us. I would think a lot of his defend vs check raise would include Ah if it doesnt contain the Q. Thus I would prefer barreling the more middling cards rather than the overs.
When you check raise hands like the 53s on 776 from the BB and pickup equity on turn like say an 8 that also gives you a flush draw, obviously you bet but you'll often brick on the river. How do you decide whether to bluff shove? I guess you're more likely to give up on an off suit 2 but shove if it's an ace? Pretty tilt to check an ace river and lose to 89 which he most likely would fold. I just think it's a very thin line between being good aggressive and spewing off chips so find it interesting how good players manage these decisions
Good question Patpat. I think that we dont have to plan on barreling turn on river too often to make the initial raise itself profitable. There is a lot of initial fold equity to be had early in the hand. We can make a small bet on turns that are relatively favorable to us (the 8 is a good example) and completely barrel off on few rivers. Maybe the earlier position the opponent is in (the more 7x we can remove from his range) the more often we would decide to fire rivers. You are definitely correct in that it is quite easy to find yourself overbluffing by the time you get to the end of a hand. Hard not to fire that last barrel sometimes, especially when you lose to the 1 hand they would have folded.
Hi Dylan, what do you think about betting small our A8cc river at 36' to bluff his Jx hands as we can represent a 9x ? Maybe not terrible as we can't have a lot of flush draw here and against this strategy he can certainly devellop a check raising range ty
