Great video Pete, I like the format 2-tabling and the depth of each relevant spot it still allows you to get into. And given that it's Zoom it still provides for plenty of action without feeling rushed.

Also liked the 2-table format, a mixture of live play, HH review and pure theory videos sounds great.

I would like to aks about your HJ open, you open folded Kc9c at 2:03 and Qh9h later, which would both be opens for me. What is your take on this spot?

Enjoyed your video as always, my main take away on this one other than it seems like all the coaches here on RiO who do live plays get a much better distribution of starting hands than i do lol , is that first: make the play that has the highest EV vs a specific opponent ( reads , Hud etc..) second: if you dont know that, fall back to a GTO type strat and third: if you dont know that, whatever play you choose is going to be wrong. really looking forward to your next Key Concepts Vid! PS:i like the 2 Table format.

2 table or replayer imo are best. Then end of the month, a video on biggest pots of the month 200bb+.

Peter Clarke 5 years, 10 months ago

Thanks. I have seen some of the other coahces do the biggest pots filter videos. I don't mind these but am a massive advocate of getting the small pots right - these are the ones that come up enough to make or break your win-rate.

Replayer on pots 20-60bb then? Even if it's like 100 hand examples that you go through quickly. I bought a book by James Sweeney AKA splitsuit on playing AK correctly. Could be an entire video series on just playing AK or suited broadways etc. Really try and specialize on getting different parts of your range down to perfection instead of over loading our brains with multiple concepts :) Anyways great video as usual. Keep'em coming!!!! Videos by Elusive marks on choosing the correct bet size on different textures got great feed back. Someone else mentioned doing a video on multiway pots. This would be a huge hit for live players! I tend to over cbet multiway. Like i'll cbet KQ on T33 board being 3-4 way on the flop with a plan on double barrel J Q K A turn. Probably huge leak of mine, but would love to see a video on multiway pots as well.

Hi, thanks for the great videos Peter

You seem to open SB way nittier than I do. I've been opening 3x Q7o, 97o, J2s,T5s,73s I thought this was standard but you said opening Q8o 2.7x was close. Do you think I will be getting crushed by decent opponents by opening so wide? What kind of % opening range do you think we should have from the small blind?

32:00 you mention keeping track of being up or down can be harmful to the player during a session, I struggle with this quite a bit. Any advice on how to block out past results during the session and how to not ride too high when being up?

Peter Clarke 5 years, 10 months ago

This instinct to appraise your monetary results comes from a deeply engrained urge to monitor how well things are going. The subconscious needs to replace this faulty habit with one that ignores short term results. This takes a lot of time but I’d recommend starting with some repeated self-talk on why this habit is harmful and useless. Then when the habit occurs, try to interrupt it and replace it with ‘what a silly thing to care about’ or ‘how am I playing?’ Eventually the mind will rewrite this script but it will take a lot of time.

Something that helped me for that is to take time to mark hands where I feel like I was not sure what to do, or missed value or potential bluff. It makes you feel like you are working for the long run and less inclined to actually look at the current result (I actually go in the "report" tab of HM2 with a filter on VPIP to find hands quickly to mark for review, so I don't have access to current session results).

Great video once again Peter. In regard to randomization, couldn't we just set up some system based on the suits in our hand? Something along those lines appeals to me as well because I can rely on it while playing live poker then, too. For example, only bluff certain spots when your unsuited cards are the same colour, ie. diamond and heart, or club and spade. This isn't a fully formed idea but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

On a different note, I've also heard you mention that you size up your 3bets when using a linear 3betting range. I find that confusing because I've typically heard that a larger size works better with a polarized 3bet range, while a linear range suits a smaller size because you're 3betting somewhat wider. Additionally, it makes sense to me to size larger with a polarized range because in theory if someone is responding correctly they'll be flatting vs a polarized range, and sizing larger makes them play larger pots while capped. Maybe you just mentioned that in a specific situation vs a specific player, because later on you sized up using a polarized range after all.

Peter Clarke 5 years, 10 months ago
  1. You could do that if you want. I find the randomiser easier and cleaner to implement than these systems.

  2. Polar is bigger, linear is smaller. If I made a linear 3bet polar-sized it will be as some sort of exploit.

soutaz89 Polar means 3betting your strongest and weakest hands, and flat calling with your medium-strength hands.

Linear means 3betting with strong hands plus some medium-strong hands, then folding the rest and not having a flat calling range at all, usually.
