I like it. Interesting to see the (evolving) thought process from a transitioning player. Also like your approach to studying. If you don't mind I'll borrow some ideas from here and pass along to students.

Well done Steve and very brave to do this as you're learning.....I'm just trying to get comfortable with PJ too so the more examples the better. Good examples using Range Builder....hope your tennis game is coming along too! Ty and I'd like to see more of this

Steve Paul 9 years, 7 months ago

Well I've been playing a lot more tennis than poker recently, and it's looking alright. Made pretty significant improvements on my two-handed backhand but my second serve is still a joke :/

Can someone elaborate more on what this pf% of particular combo means in term of "siutness". For example 42%, 75%, 90%?

Steve Paul 9 years, 7 months ago

An unpaired hand has 256 total combos. Of those, 24 are rainbow (~10%), 36 are double suited (~15%) and the rest (~75%) are single suited. Among the single suiteds, half should be suited to the high card (so 98 total combos, ~37%) but some of these will be three/four of a suits so numbers sometimes will be off slightly due to that.

Great video, thank you Steve!
One question about the AA on monotone connected flop hand: Does the calculation by PJ factor in the rake? Because if it doesn't the rake will take away any small profit you can make there.

Im pretty new to PLO too but its very interesting. Do u use any kind of HUD? Or do u think is not necessary?

Steve Paul 9 years, 6 months ago

I use a very slightly modified version of my nl hud but I mostly just use it for identifying rec players/too tight players/regs.

Daniel 9 years, 6 months ago

Question one of the thing that I really struggle with in learning poker at this point, I play on a site that doesn't offer a HUD I play in NV. Is doing this kind of work still going to do me good? Or can I even do it?

Daniel 9 years, 6 months ago

no reply on my msg? :(

Steve Paul 9 years, 6 months ago

sorry about that, somehow missed this one. Yes I think this kind of work is still extremely valuable. With a good hud and some common sense you can go a fairly long way while having very poor fundamentals. The less information about your opponents you have the more important good fundamentals are.

Hi Steve, watching your video right now.
Regarding defending vs the cbet in the 3bet pot with KQ96ss (around ~18 min) with pokerjuice.
You say that you defend too little, but dont you think that you are actually defending a couple of % more on the flop, because you didnt exclude any trash hands preflop, that you would in real play fold to the 3bet? I would say if you would 5-10 % (just guessing), that this would make quite a difference on the flop.
Any thoughts?
Random.org + oddsoracle preflop sounds like a good idea, didnt really understand the part about 3bet range construction. Would be nice if you could clarify/explain that.
Cheers,
Aquila

re: KQ96ss yeah you might be right. On the other hand, my fold to 3bet in that spot is very low and a decent chunk of the folds are crappy Axxx not suited to the ace which would flop top pair here, so not 100% sure.

I don't really remember what the part about 3bet range construction was, if you tell me (or give me a timestamp) I'll try to comment on it.

I really enjoyed this video! It was amazing to see you learning while teaching, but most importantly going over core concepts and how to properly put time in the lab. Please keep the PLO video grind alive! :D much <3

Hey Steve - just wanted to say that I'd love to see more videos from you like this. There are tons of videos on the site using Pio now, but there aren't actually many videos walking through hands with PokerJuice, so it'd be great to see more of that. Thanks.

the TT44 do we even care if its double suited or not? What if its rainbow would we just fold the hand pre unless we are on the btn? Or do the double paired hands have to much value to sets? Should i really be thrilled flopping a set of 4s? Maybe i fold these hands to much if they are disconnected I lose interest.

Cobra Kai 8 years ago

25:00 so I see he has more air in his range then value hands but what if his hud tendancies are passive and hes not 3 barreling much as a bluff on the river. Do you still find a call since his range is more air heavy or do you lean more towards a fold if he has a low aggression factor say like 1

wooooow 8 years ago

What can you say to the %es of range that is included in the ProPokertools calculation?
~14% is dbl suited
~50% is suited to the ace?
~90% is any singlesuited and 100% is rainbow?
And now I found a case that has 23,5% in it. What's that about?
90% might be rainbow but not 3 of one suit or 4 maybe..?

Hey Steve,

Old video but still relevant for people like me, transitioning to PLO. Just started the learning path for PLO. Are you still using poker juice now or some of the more recent solvers? Was looking at monker and the new Vision. What to you find as best all encompassing tool for analysis these days?
