On a more serious note I think you 100% should have kept Tennis on your list as a priority for your health and also serves dual purpose as you can play with friends which allows you to spend time together.
One thing Eliot taught me, instead of saying
ill try and do this every month
You say
Jericho will excess is progress each month.
Refer to yourself in 3rd person and write it down with confidence. No more "trying." Jericho will do it.
Being healthy is not rly an issue for me as I am more active than most and am already in great shape because of gym.
As for tennis, dw, Im not dropping it. I'm just not going to make a strict schedule abt it. I'll play whenever I can which is more or less how I've been going abt it over the last few years. But you're right, it's a great way to spend time w friends while also doing smhtg that is good for your health.
Thanks for the Elliot knowledge. To each his own. The "write it down w confidence" thing never worked for me because it was making me too anxious and putting too much pressure on me. I'm the opposite of lazy by nature, so it was just creating more stress and more anxiety. I prefer less strict goals w more leeway. Otherwise, it just doesn't do me good mentally.
Thanks for this. This video was motivational itself.
I have found that taking baby steps works for me. Find one thing to change, try the change for a couple of weeks to make it into a new habit. If you can maintain that habit then add the next thing. I personally have found that having deadlines makes things worse as it induces stress.

I get crazy anxiety with this stuff as well. One side of me is lazy and the other side needs to do these things so I'm not lazy, but when I do them I get crazy stressed out. The sleep schedule is going to lead to way less stress and healthy habits, but I'm just unable to wake up in the morning. It may last for a week then I'm right back to waking up late afternoon. Then nothing gets done!
IMO you forgot the most important thing in setting goals and trying to achieve it. That is to have fun during the process, otherwise, nothing makes sense :D
One thing I find helpful when setting poker goals is to focus less on specific goals and instead to focus on the required input that I think will be required to achieve those goals. So instead of saying "I want to make $X this year", work out how many hours of study and play you think will be required to get those results and say "I will study Y hours per week and play Z hours per week". You do not have full control over your results (due to variance etc), but you do have full control over your effort, work ethic, schedule etc. If you focus solely on results, you may make less than you target due to variance and feel bad, or you may run hot and not put in enough work to sustain those results. If your targets are based around your process and you meet them then eventually you will get what you want. Similarly it's better to target/analyse EV rather than profit when looking at results.
Yeah thats good. I never put myself a $ goal but I did set myself a stake where I'd like to be playing (which is more or less the same in some way).
I never was good w scheduling stuff like play X hours or study X hours, I'm more of a guy that will do it whenever I want it. But it's true. I think that it's better to go abt it the way you mentioned., by focusing on stuff you actually control.
Wanting to play "X" number of hands per month works well for me. I think I will do it that way. Thanks for the kind tips :)

Just keep moving forward.

Yeah deadlines can have a real negative impact on you. They are a double edged sword.
Baby steps is great. You get to notice the progress. Moving fwd is key, always.

That's a great pt! Thanks for mentioning this haha.
It's true, if the process sucks, you will have a miserable time.
