A lot more edge to be had in this area than people think. This and how people play when on a downswing. Possibly topic for your next video. The great part is nobody wants to put in the work to write all this stuff down, pre-routine, cool down, etc. They just want to get on and play. Great video.

I think a routine can definitely help with a consistent development and once your routines are locked in you can have more consistent results/hours etc.

Nice vid, thx.

I think this video was really too slow paced.

Given English is not my first language and I try to explain myself in a manner that can be understood by everyone, I think I might take too much time to say things that are maybe simple and think a bit too much about what I say constantly before and while im saying it... The 1.25x might help a lot like archcity said but thanks for constructive criticism, it is noted and I will work on that.

Good video, good advice, good length at video...comming from trading I find journaling/reflecting/reviewing paramount for development!

Awesome Video Serge. Something different and it reveals things that players may want to try or start doing. Like stated above A lot of people just sit in the chair fire up the poker client and start grinding with no prep or anything. actually copied down your pre-game notes and post game notes onto a piece of paper while watching the video, going to start doing this check list like you said.

One thing you said about having food and water ready for your breaks really made me laugh but laugh to myself. I am very bad for this on my breaks. Ill play for an hour or so..get up and be like man im hungry and end up making some sort of meal and sit down and eat it..mean while its been an hour or so long break which is not good.

Mind me asking where in Canada are you from?

One last point i think that could be addressed for anyone playing online poker for a living or even doing any job that involves viewing computer monitors for a long time is to invest in computer gaming glasses that are designed to block out blue digital light.
i have a pair from a company called Gunnar and they are great. been using them for about 8 months and i don't know why it took me so long to get a pair. I find my eyes not to be dried up at the end of the night..i sleep much better, reduced headaches. Really help out anyone in today's world i think since we live in such a high technology time with computers, video games, TV's, smart phones, tablets etc.

Either way Great Video serge and i look forward to your next video. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Justin, really appreciated
Always good to have food and drinks ready, its the fuel that keeps our brains going... I will def be looking into the glasses you spoke of. I am from Montreal, why do you ask?
And thanks again for the positive feedback!

Hi Serge, thanks a lot for making this "behavior" video highlighting a lot of points that a young pro may be very likely to neglect.

great vid!
Thanks for the tips.

One question: What is the main point that makes u prefer to play full ring instead of 6-max tables?
(sorry the english)

thanks!

Serge Pouliot 8 years ago

Hi brun, thanks!
I myself have a higher winrate at FR over 6 max but something I think anyone can relate to is that decisions come at a much faster pace with 6 max tables and are somewhat more often on the more complex side, so having 9 tables of 6 max could be compared to something like 15 tables of FR in terms of decision making and hands seen.
I am currently working on a video that I will to explain in my own experience and personal opinions the differences Ive noticed between FR and SH.

Really great concept video! Definitely very helpful!

Out of curiosity what laptop do you primarily use to play poker? And what monitors do you have? Do you connect the laptops to the monitor and what is that set up like? Very interested to know some of the specifics of your set up, would be super helpful.

Thanks.

Serge Pouliot 8 years ago

Hi dhruvsehgal,
I have 2 monitors connected to a top of the line MSI gaming laptop, I always buy gaming laptops because I can change out parts and i feel like the overall quality and durability is greater than normal laptops. It needs 2 screen ports (mine has VGA and HDMI) so that I dont need an adapter or splitter. I put my laptop to the left and usually has the less important stuff on it, the middle screen has all my tables and the right screen has my poker apps to help out during the session.
Hope this helps!

I really like this, I think people (myself included) neglect the pre and post grind mental workout too much and this is a great way to get into the habit of getting in the right mindset for a session and improve our mindset!

Thanks!

Not going to lie, I didn't find this video useful at all. Just a list of mostly obvious tips.

Serge Pouliot 7 years, 8 months ago

I guess to some people to may seem obvious, to others its just something to better their grinding routine, to be honest, it took me several years to realize that doing this is profitable and beneficial for my work, if you already knew this and are just starting out, you have an extra edge over everyone and actually must be ahead of the pact.
Good job and good luck!

Thx four the video Serge!

I have only one question , If u play 2hr sessions and take brakes how do u then think when it is for example a good game with a "phil hellmuth" player? Is it not better to stay then and take the brake later on or do u leave the game any ways?

Serge Pouliot 7 years, 7 months ago

Hi Stttnnn,
I think this is a balance you must achieve and understand by yourself given every person is different but I would advise first and foremost to be optimal in grinding situations, basically what I mean is, yes this said player is very bad on this said table but YOU being tired, worn out, annoyed or just anything that isnt optimal lowers your gameplay as well and thus affect the way you play, your ability to exploit this ''phil helmuth'' and your winrate.
So all in all, I think having the focus on you and playing in optimal situations is better long term than focusing on a single (or a few) player(s) on specifics tables. There are many Phil Helmuths in this world, dont worry!
