Yessss! I can't wait to dive into this one. I will be sure to comment again once I have actually viewed the video, but this topic from Mr. Pimmer is sure to be outstanding.
interesting take on linking something that gives you pleasure , like a good cup of coffee, with something that you are perhaps not as motivated to do.
Would this be a version of Pavlovian response? Not exact, but using this idea? So that our brains replace the dread of grinding a study session with the pleasure of the experience we tether it to?
Yes it is a version of it. You condition yourself to get a joyful response in your brain for doing something, or more joyful.
Now I have to caution, it does not work the same for everyone and sometimes it takes a while to set in, but the principle if applied can be very helpful.
Very nice observation !
To be more precise, this is actually a technique used by many high level performers, they create a routine and condition themselves and their psychology as well as their physiology to have a specific response but I will talk about this some more in a video.
I have never been a student and never really studied any materials, just done what I like - and thats just to play PLO - Play way too long and eventually get bored and lose the bankroll.
So, for things to change - I need to change the things that I do. Cause when I am in the zone, I can almost not lose where I play. But when I loose myselfe I cant even beat the smallest micros..
I had an Essential membership, Ive just watched a few vids there for PLO and lots of times been thinking of taking stuff seriously. Almost like "the unused gym-membership"
So now Ive taken notes and watched this video. I got the Elite membership - And my goal is to study more then I play. Im already exhausted by this 30mins, but real good info and vid. Took me more then an hour to watch it.
Hope this will be the start of something great ! (by a series of small acts)..
Hi Chris, very nice video. I like studying topic a lot because i always lack a rigorous method for study during school. This are a few idea that i think could be useful for other member:
1) read about the pomodoro technique and use it, i usually do 25 minute study followed by 5 minute break where i drink something, go to pee and listen song during stretching;
2) nice course on coursera is learning how to learn by Barbara Oakley, very nice insight like the recall strategy for study vs recognition;
3)usually for study preflop ranges i use ANKI + flopzilla; ANKI is a flashcard program used for study and recall;
4)the myth of creativity remember me a lot of the begginer mind theached in meditation book like Jhon kabat Zinn one.
Ty for this video Chris.
PS: this ideas could be useful in a lot of other areas of your life beside poker.
Thank you berti, I read a few books by Oakley and I have her course, good stuff.
Nice idea on Anki + Flopzilla, I think Flopzilla should probably be utilized a lot more in study than it is by most.
Overall, make things easy and repeatable, that will help to get things going even when one is not as motivated because the barrier of entry is much lower and once in it, you can do more than you think usually.

Thank you, Chris ! :D
That's wonderful ! Start small, if it takes you 3 hours to get through a short video, so be it, but you will at least take the lessons to heart
Ill do the fun things first (as you mentioned), Watch the PLO2K :D
Then dive in to this theory material =)
