POSTED Aug 18, 2022

Steve Paul departs from the theory and offers a practical review of fellow RIO member Emsterdad who is seeking to go from his current micro/low stakes up to the $100 or $200 NL level which Steve believes to be quite achievable based on the play in the footage.

Tag players - if there are no green tags on your table best to leave the table. If you are using PT4 click the note pad to select the color you want to tag each hud. Usually green = fish. Red = strong reg. Blue = whale. Purple = short stack. Yellow ok reg. Orange = nit. etc.

F3B stat is incorrect. Should be F3B after PF raise. Notice some players calling / folding to 3bets but the stat doesn't change on the hud. Also noticed everyone has an extremely high F3B, which means the wrong stat is on the hud.

Steve Paul covered pretty much everything else with being consistent with your 3bet sizes IP / OOP and squeeze sizes. Typically you will go 3x IP as your 3bet size, 4x OOP, and around 5x for your squeeze size. A lot of 33% flop CB on dry board, bigger on dynamic boards with a more polarized range. As Steve mentioned you are not going 3 streets for thin value most of the time, so river is just going to mostly use large bets OOP or small bets. Something like 33% or 125%. IP can have more medium bet sizes, but also large like 50% - 300%.

You always ask if Wizard is worth it, you can clearly see it is now.

great note about the F3B stat RunItTw1ce I've been there before wondering why everyone's f3b is so high ;)

emsterdad full name of the PT4 stat that you're likely want to swap this with is 'Fold to PF 3Bet After Raise'

Hi I already changed that in HEM to fold to 3b after raise. Not sure if that’s already in this video or not. I think it is actually.

Just some thoughts on some of the questions from Steve:

I already started implementing small bets on the flop after our short conversation and I actually do this as a default now to make life easier for me haha so with the nuts, with bluffs… everything… my flop C bet is small. Might miss some EV on that but it really helps.

I can def be too fast in my decisions. Often versus fish. The reason for that is that the ranges are so wide I often just look at my own hand and don’t bother what they might have. The hand where I lost versus 104o is confirmation but I understand that this is also confirmation bias. I just need to think deeper in game. It’s true I almost always go to the button with my mouse what I think is right and then I start thinking. I also really dislike how little time there is on microstakes to think about stuff … so I just make it as fast as possible (I am not saying this makes any sense at all).

You were also right on betting big to just get it in. I think it’s a combination of laziness (easy to hit pot), but also really not knowing what a good size would be. This can be fixed with thinking more about ranges and what my bet looks like. There is also a mental game thing lingering in the background where I think I might want to make pots bigger so I win more quickly so I can move up quicker. Which is bad thinking but like i said, that’s not something I really base a decision on. I think this is just a subtle thing that affects me like 3-6% in my decision making. I also want them to pay more for draws and their hands. We bet for 2 reasons (I have this from a Janda book):
- denying equity
- Making the pot bigger when we want too

So it seems I am applying that knowledge wrong.

In general, I am a bit unbalanced in my bet sizing and can really work on that.

oh.. and, forgot to mention, edit: I did stay on the table for the video. Normally I want to have one big fish on the table. But still, the 60bb/100 explanation was eye opening. The rake where I play is 7,5%.

I don’t play fast tables. Holland Casino does not have it and I like regular tables.

Again, super thanks for this!
