Hi Steve,
I liked the video. I can see where I made plenty of mistakes along the way (especially about the fun part and just counting hours... ;) )
I think a video on how to look for mistakes as a novice/ mistakes you came across in your students, that they typically werent aware of in the beginning could be nice for a follow up (if this makes sense to you)
Cheers,
Aquila (and yeah, I reactivated my blog (2 years and 9 month no activity), bettter luck me this time (hah!)
Hey buddy. Thanks for the time in creating this video. Although I have been playing poker for many years, I stepped away from it for 2 years or so and am getting back into things. Figured we would start back with the basics and create a good foundation and mindset. Thanks for your help!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm also coming off about a 2 year break from playing, my most recent video (Getting Back In Shape) is about how I'm going about what I'm doing now to improve.
That might also be good to keep in mind for some people. At what point does poker become more "profitable" for you than a different career path? And are you certain you will get there?
I think 400nl, to get there, must be crazy hard these days?
Perhaps becoming a software engineer in Silicon Valley becomes more profitable?
(putting passion aside for a month especially in poker where there are no guarantees you get where you want to be)

Nice Steve. And good to see someone (else) mucking around in RStudio ;)

I needed this video.
What does a pro at the higher levels actually earn if you calculated it back to a monthly salary, Steve Paul ? (high stakes for me is 200nl and up)
Can't give you a solid answer there, but the formula is pretty straightforward
"salary" = (bb in $) x (bb/100 winrate) x (# hands / 100)
So for a 200NL player who makes 4bb/100 and plays 50k hands, you get 2 x 4 x 500 = $4,000 per month ignoring rakeback.
That might also be good to keep in mind for some people. At what point does poker become more "profitable" for you than a different career path? And are you certain you will get there?
