around 27:00 when you 3b/call KJo vs btn, are you 3b/5betting if he cib? imo its better to  shove if he cib than 3bet/call 40bbs cause really when he cib he will have much more bluffs than value since he is probably narrowed with his inducing range ( assuming he is not a familiar reg). i think even with  a wild table image , sunday amateurs players are much more looking at their cards then your tendencies, especially when they need to put all their chips in.  i can be wrong if that villain had already shown some moves...

Great video! thanks

Glad you liked the video Andre. On your specific point it works both ways. Cos when the cib they are normally really polarised. They have QQ-AA and some bluffs. They don't cib with like 22-TT they just jam + plus broadways we dominate.

This hand somewhat tenuous. As I say in the video. flat is probably best.

(reply to your answer) :

as you said , when a amateur cib in that obv spot  (btn vs bb)  he will be polarised , but he will  be much more bluffy  since his  value range is so narrowed  and his bluff range is really any2 he opened .  if a reg 4bet jams you can call expecting to dominate a lot of broadways and small pairs, assuming he will 4bet/call something like AJ+, 88+ , but when a fish jams there ill expect you to be in a very bad shape since he would not " risk his tournament life with QT" , he is much more likely to defend the 3bet or cib/fold   imo.

just trying to discuss that spot even tho we agree flatting is better

at 20mins , are you willing to get in on the flop here? I mean we can just assume he has no over pairs in his range here, plus often he has combo draws and i think getting 40BB in here is bad - Considering your edge in the tournament and tournament EV > Chip EV.

Sam Grafton 11 years, 5 months ago

I take your point. It's very thin. At the time and watching it back I felt like I could profitably get it in. Of course the more standard play is just to call down 3-streets with it. That may well be optimal. Just have something of a history with this player and felt it was simplest to go with my hand now, given how wide his opening range is and likely spew factor.

Understand your concern tho and like many of the plays in this video I do think as a line it should be used somewhat sparingly. Seems in this video I took almost every spot and that is it always best strategy.

do u consider oop float and lead the river if turn goes c/c ?

I feel like we risk too much and  not pick up enough

after betting 1.8k he stiill have 16k behind

I think our c/r looke really bluffy, do we really  crai with any value hand ?

We don't raise many hands for value here, we would probably c/r induce a hand like KQ KJ if we flat it preflop. however, it doesn't matter how "bluffy" we look here. With the button having a wide range opening the button, hes not calling our jam here with Q4s or JTo, even Ace high. Sam realises that we are never getting Kx to fold or pretty much any pair, but with the wide opening range, we just get this jam through so often. Also by calling the flop, we open ourselves up to being barrelled as well as letting him improve his equity with his wide array of hands.

In reply to halvadron1 - I agree, but our opponent wont call with QJ, JT, T9 etc - all of which have great equity and are actually in front. He may bluff jam an Ace on turn (with the best hand), may turn a draw and bluff jam (again we can't call) so given how wide he's opening and c-betting (+ our equity) I think this play shows a healthy profit.

is the shove at 12' really necessary? villain is pretty deep, u do have an A blocker but i feel people overvalue blockers too much... sure it could be somewhat profitable but u did a great job baggin up why shoving with a hand that ur gonna be crushed if called at such an early stage

chesterfold 11 years, 4 months ago

tbh the shove with a2 at around 12min is probably the worst play ive ever seen in a video, and the explanation is even worst imo. At least if you show some stats saying villian 3 bets a lot but always fold to a 4 bet or that you have a crazy dynamic going on with him..ok, we can buy that but shoving there having a feeling and "ok if you realy have a hand thats just 40bb´s spew" seems realy bad for a noob like me. Maybe its just outside of the box and i cant get it.

Sam Grafton 11 years, 4 months ago

You could well be right. It definitely could be bad. Only thing i'd say in defence of the play is that he's pretty polarised and only has QQ-AA for value and we have an ace.

Dont want to sound like a jerk.

But the sound is really bad in this video. There is some sort of echo or after vibration when you speak.
