Excellent first video! I play mostly live and am looking forward to more of that content. I think a focus on more ICM oriented play and theory videos in standard, non bounty tournies would be great to see. ICM, I think, is definitely a weak spot for so many including myself.
Awesome! Glad to hear it, because I think I could make a cool video for those of us coming from a live/feel background who want to start working more on theoretical study.
Hey Ryan!
Great first video. Really look forward to your follow-ups.
I've played with you live on several occasions, 2-7 and mixed, and you are one of the real class acts out there! So thanks first for that...
Your open, conversational style is a breath of fresh air here!
A few thoughts:
1) The tell stuff is very, very interesting. There isn't much high quality commentary out there on the subject on general sites like RIO. Only on dedicated tell courses, and a few mediocre books from what I've seen.
2) Me thinks you massively underate your potential contributions for mixed game content!
Would love to see 3 mixed videos from you:
1) How you have approached your own prep for 8-game/dealer's choice/HORSE/2-7TD etc.as a self-described non-elite mixed guy. (sure...)
2 &3) A 2 or 3(!) part video that breaks down your much admired performance along with others' key hands at the $50k PPC at the fall WSOP in '21.
In any case I'll be waiting for whatever you have time to produce.
Hey Mike, thanks for the kind words! I'm excited about the live tell content coming up, I'm finishing up a video on that now and I think it's going to be pretty solid. I'll make sure I get a few good mixed game vids in there as well, I just want to make sure everyone knows that I'm a lot less sure of my knowledge and ability in mixed than I am NLHE.
Thanks, Ryan. I felt like you were speaking just to me:) I will definitely be following along, as i began playing live mtts full time in 2023 and could feel (deeply!) by year's end that my "exploit" style only was getting me so far. Time to buckle down and incorporate more theory. -Farah
Thanks Ryan. I look enjoyed the video, and look forward to the specific strategies you allude to moving forward. I come from a live background, but have played online also. I found I have more come back to live, as my results are better and more consistent. I have devoted a lot of time to study including solver study, but I find it dry overall. I agree focus on ICM is key, but I would be eager for an approach for less solver adept players to incorporate this learning into study. I agree you have a lot to teach less experienced live players. Probably more experienced ones too. I watch poker content voraciously. Triton, Wsop etc. I have witnessed several instances of what seem to me to be hugely glaring live strength tells missed. I am excited to see your content. cheers
Hi,
interesting first video, looking forward for more :)
I have been ridiculed several times now for randomizing in live MTTs. I know myself, that I am overdoing it, but still am always a bit cautious when people say never do it, although several very strong players have told me, they never do it. Do you really feel comfortable in each and every spot, that you have some kind of info that sways you one way or the other when two or more decisions have similiar EV in theory? E.g 3b or call, bet size x vs size y, bet or check etc
I hardly ever randomize in spots where I decide between fold and call, but even there sometimes do it when it is extremely close and I cannot find anything that makes me lean one way oe the other.
I am a 57 year old live pro and just signed up for RIO and so many of these videos are almost all looking at solver charts, which is a foreign language to me. Please try to occasionally "humanize" the explanations of the solver results. thanks
Thanks for the feedback Ari. We're always trying to make sure that our coaches explain the important takeaways from solver solutions and don't just focus on the solutions themselves but this is a good reminder for us.
Very relatable video, thanks Ryan. The illusion of being balanced is something I've thought about for awhile, just haven't heard anyone say it until now. It's also why I show bluffs sometimes, or why I chat with my opponents to get a feel for what they think of me. Looking forward to more content from you!
Welcome Ryan. You mentioned that, as an information, gathering, tactic, you like to observe players when they bluff, compared to how they play a Nutted hand. I wonder if in your tells videos, you might consider showing a few actual examples of televised players bluffing versus playing Nutted hands and analyze them in order to exemplify this process. Thank you for considering.
I've gone back and forth on this. I don't think I should do this with a specific player for two reasons:
A. It seems a bit unfair to make a whole community aware of one player's live tells
B. If the video reaches their attention and they are live-tell savvy then they could reverse it on us.
I will try to go into detail on how to best do this on your own though.
Hey all! Just wanted to update everyone who was looking forward to my upcoming vids. I had a family issue that kept me away for a few months. But I will be recording some vids very soon and will get them out to you in the weeks leading into WSOP!
I hope your family situation is ok now! On a less important matter, I can't wait to see more of your videos and would like to reiterate my hope that you'll include some mixed games content. You'd be a great benefit to the community.
Looking forward to more videos like this, @RyanLengCLC. Hope you are still going to make more videos in the future. Would be interested to hear your thoughts more in-depth on specific common "live tells" and the factors that may make you take them seriously or shrug them off in the moment.
Something I do notice about live tells is that there not always 100 accurate but sometimes they are. I think the theoretical background will help you more than your live reads

Love seeing some live MTT content. Thanks!
Great stuff, we need more!!!
More mixed games content please -- anyway you can contribute would be appreciated!

Hey Ryan great video my guy!
Generally play and study online and live cash.
But I have played a bit of live mtts at local casinos, I would say my 15-35 bb stack depth is probably the weakest part of my mtt game.
Coming from a cash game background, what would you recommend for improving your mtt game?
Something I do notice about live tells is that there not always 100 accurate but sometimes they are. I think the theoretical background will help you more than your live reads
