Hi Ryan, Can you go over your reasoning for not betting the flopped set? I know you say you don't have very many leads, but doesn't your exact hand require protection in that spot. My instinct is to nit up a bit later stages and im just trying to better understand this spot, because im for sure betting that set. If the player behind has fewer chips are you leading?

No worries!
4 way poker is certainly very complex and I am uncertain on what exactly is the correct answer in theory. But from what I have seen from simple 3 way is that we tend to bet much less often 3 way and I imagine this more exaggerated 4 ways, also with ICM pressure when we are the stack at risk we have a higher value threshold to get in all the chips, which again leads to more of a passive approach pre and post flop. With all of this to be considered I think we should be checking at a very high frequency if not pure in this exact situation. This hand is certainly a hand class that I could see wanting to bet at a lower frequency, but for the above reasoning I think this is a spot we would be checking most of our range.

Hey Ryan, I've got a couple of questions/comments about the 55 hand as well at 10-12 min.

4 ways given the board texture I feel like this is a bet. I understand the need not to bet the top of our range but given that any club, J, T or K are unfavourable (18 outs) shouldn't a bet be warranted? I imagine there is an x% chance you get check-raised from the blinds with a straight or flush draw holding a non 0% of the time. Additionally, vs 4 opponents there are so many pairs or pair + draw hands that are looking for a showdown and you can certainly get value from on the flop.

PS really enjoying the series so far and keep up the great work!

Hey Johnny, sorry for the late reply I must have missed your message. I still stand by my reasoning in the above comment. I am glad that you are enjoying the series!

I read the whole discussion thread but still don't understand why you didn't bet 55 on the flop there. 'Want to be checking most of our range' but wouldn't this be a very small part of our range we want to bet? We have the effective nuts and could use a lot of protection. Loved the series, thanks

Yes 55 does seem like it could be one of the hands in the leading category. Although I certainly don't think it would be pure and I also think it would be very difficult to balance 4 way. Glad you enjoyed the series mate!
