Cory Mikesell discusses the difficult PLO scenarios where you are extremely deep-stacked and forced to make decisions that don't typically occur in regular, more shallow-stacked games.

On the Q86ccc how much ev would we lose by rounding to a pure check ip? Imagine 26% is a bit too high of a bet % to do so with

Hey Cbrewer4,

Yeah IP usually loses at least one percent of the pot when he makes this kind of adjustment and 1% of a 4B pot is pretty substantial. I actually think the way to go is to size down (I should have addressed this in the video). If we go quarter pot, we'll be able to bet more often and it should be a difficult be size for our opponent's to counter

That makes a lot of sense, probably over do it some but I'm constantly looking for ways to take solver strategies and simplify them for irl play.

P.S. I recently read your book, very well done on it

28:30 why is OOP leading this flop as it shouldn't hit his 3betting range that much? I thought these middling rundowns are more in the flatting range of SB?

Hey Martin, all the RIO videos are blocked in the country where I'm currently located so I can't fast forward to that spot. Are you referring to T86r?

You're right that many hands that connect with this board flat the BTN RFI, but quite a lot of them 3B as well. They also always call the 4B as most of SB's folding hands are the weaker KK and QQ hands. This starts to skew the SB range towards middle rundowns quite hard. Additionally, BTN's 4Bing hands just massively wiff this board. That means that hands that would only be marginally strong in other contexts (I'm thinking of two pair hands) for SB, go way up in value since they do very well vs AA. Hope that helps.

Love seeing a focus on deep stack. I'm currently playing in a weekly game that has a 250bb cap so love any content around this subject. Hope your trip is going well!

How did you arrive at .5 bet sizing? Interesting video. As a mostly live player right now I wonder how to incorporate live reads into my strategy--where to flex, maybe convert mixed to pure w/some hand classes? Does that matter?

Cory Mikesell 5 years, 4 months ago

Regarding the sizing: I think anything from 1/3-2/3 is probably so close in value that it's not going to matter in human play. Going with a pot bet would really restrict our IP betting frequency and cause us to miss chances at getting flop fold equity (because we will bet so rarely for pot)

You should definitely try to incorporate live reads into these strategies. You might see someone snap check as OOP which tells you they never considered donking which could indicate weakness. A snap call to your 4B probably indicates a hand that has a lot of smoothness but doesn't seem like a plausible 5B. I'm always looking for ways to deviate from the solver strategies by narrowing their ranges. Live reads is a great way to do this.
