Thanks for the video. I don't have any immediate suggestions for future content but it seems like you've already got the ball rolling pretty well.

I'm currently going through all of these videos 1-2 per week and enjoying the content a lot.

Hi Chris,

I'm the guy from the other thread. If you didnt have any great ideas for vids I'd be interested in an investigation into the idea of how memory and HUD design interact further :)

Chris Pimmer 4 years, 8 months ago

Can you elaborate a little more on what you mean?
I have some thoughts but they could be way off depending on what you are refering to

ralphcig789 4 years, 8 months ago

I havent got the timestamp but towards the end of the section on that topic in this vid you explicitly ask (paraphrased) if you want further videos on the said topic, ask in the comments.
I think it's a good idea. And would be happy to hear you elaborate on WHATEVER ideas you have on it. So I am asking :)

I did not really mention how memory and hud design interact, that's why I am not sure what your question is about. I said in the video if you are more intereted in hud design or color design.

Off the top of my head I can say that when you design a hud, you want it to be structured in a more or less logical manner, so that not only learning it is easy, but also using it is very intuitive.
There are many ways to go about that.
You can use the stats you use most often, you can use themes, like hud for 3bet pot or hud for SRP.
Same with pop ups, you can create and link the pop ups to a related stat, so that you don't have to search forever or think a lot to remember where that pop up was.

And as a failsafe you can put all the pop ups as well into the general pop up tabs, so you can always find them

I see, I did not make that description. I don't think it the memory and hud design interact that much.
I have another video: Producing output
That goes over some of the topics in the description as well.

OK. It's nice to be on the same page now :)
I suppose you answered the related q: you don't feel they interact that much.
Here's a q. There's no rush to answer it, so by all means have a good think.
It's a follow up to the description of this vid (which I appreciate YOU didn't write) but where the mix up occurred.
q: in your opinion in relation to any part of poker, what does memory interact with in an interesting way (which isn't commonly known/appreciated/thought about)?
It's not a q I have an answer to but I have faith you have a good answer for me.
Thanks in advance.

There are different types of memory, for example, you using your skills of poker could be categorized as using memory. But I assume that's not what you talk about.

So, remembering facts or factual knowledge.
Observing is to me the biggie here.
People might be aware of it, but don't really appreciate it for how difficult it is and how it can be trained.
Remembering tells or strategic weaknesses in opponents, especially when you play vs unknowns and or switch tables.. for example in a live game, building quick and strong profiles of people.
This can be trained in every day life as it is a specific form of paying attention.
You need to be able to quickly form connections between what you see and what is stored in your mind as knowledge, and the deeper your knowledge is, the better you will be able to see even the faintest displays of a concept.

Thank you for the answer Chris. I was waiting to be less tired to read the post closely.
So:
you have 2 groups. a) what you see/what's going on (@ the table) b) what you know/what you remember (about poker theory.)
Are we saying the more of b) you have then it helps with another group c) (what the correct counterstrategy is likely to be in the situation) which is based on a) (your observations)?

Chris Pimmer 4 years, 8 months ago

I am not entirely sure I follow.
You observe and you integrate your observations with your poker skill and then use both to make the most informed decision.

I'm going to change topic. What's the direction for the video series for rest of 2020?

Chris Pimmer 4 years, 8 months ago

Similar to what is has been. The Mind, Mindset, Learning, Cognitive Biases in Poker and building up against that.
Overcoming different weaknesses in mental game, learning and other areas

Great video Chris! I don’t have a lot of experience using a hud while I’m playing, only as a reference to get a generally understanding of my opponents tendencies, I feel like if I’m looking at the hud while I’m playing it’s too many numbers for me to be looking at especially if I’m multi tabling. Maybe I should have it up more!

Thanks. It simply is a matter of training, as you become familiar with it, it becomes automatic, however, it is not something that is required. A lot of High Stakes Pros do not use one.
