Sometimes dreams do come true! Thanks Phil & all the RIO Pros that made it happen.

holabcn 9 years, 11 months ago

Yeah, it also would be great to make some type of competition between Elite Pros and Essential Pros. For example HU NL. Few matches between the different types of Pros and then The Final Match. (the same format ofc)
I'm sure it'll be so sooo interesting to see the difference of thinking level on practice.. Or see that there is no difference and there is only skill.. Or, It'll be just AWESOME anyways)

Fun watch.. nice to see a sng video as well, even nicer that I don't run into these players at my games :) Looking forward to the rest.

Cheers

I think this video is great. IMO it shows the difference between someone who is good at poker, and someone who is great at poker. I think it emphasizes how a lot of good players just get stuck in their ways, and don't adjust to changing dynamics. I think you could speak volumes in the contrast in opening sizing, and defending ranges, and the reasons everyone gives.

David Nicholl 9 years, 11 months ago

It's amazing to see how well they read each others hands. Particularly interesting the predictions on what people were going to do and then whether they could then actually follow thorough with tough calls or raises or NOT etc....

Jeffrey Mulder 9 years, 11 months ago

Really really good guys. It's a very unique format, and gives us a real insight into everyones thought process. What's on the line other than pride? Any giant RIO belts or rings? Does Phil have to do the winner's ironing for a month? Seriously loved it. Eagerly awaiting the next one.

james 9 years, 11 months ago

Awesome video guys and great job by the guys who did the editing putting it together. I'd also love to see a NL 6 max cash one of these.

Now that i have your attention please read the comment below :)

TEUNUSS AND JAMES HUDSON. this is actually what i suggested to Ben Sulsky base on a comment i saw in one of Teunuss videos!! this is an excellent idea and excellent project for the cash games players out there that don`t want to see a bunch of clicking ;) lol jkjkjkjkjkjkjjjkjkjkjkjk tournament players are not clickers at all lol, what we can extrapolate from this is that they are definitely creative people! BTWN super Teunus and super James Hudson, question, what do you guys think about turning the KQ hand to a bluff here with a check raise in the river?? i m talking about min 11.05 when Street$$$homey holds KQ and folded by the river to a 3er barrel, to make it GTO approx we need 16 combos of bluffs since we have 32 combos of straights assuming we float OOP with T8 , besides KQ should not even be in out flatting range here.. so we are most likely UNDER bluffing this spot a lot! shame on the tournament players! lol nahh most likely they will come up with an ICM weird number here and i will look like a compleate clown lol

welshgaz16 9 years, 11 months ago

This is the kind of video that clearly shows the difference between playing standards and what it takes to be elite at this game. Great stuff!

So_Nitty 9 years, 11 months ago

So much fun to watch! Amazing hand reading skills....it's uncanny. Nice bluff at the end Dave. Can't wait for more. I think this will bring a lot of new members

Stephen Chidwick 9 years, 11 months ago

Very impressed with the editing and looking forward to the upcoming parts, nice job team. I just wish the big bluff that got me the cl was shown...maybe in the outtakes ;)

Zefa 9 years, 11 months ago

This video is so awesome. I think a huge effect at play though is that none of the pros want to do something dumb or wrong because they know everyone will eventually be watching so they tend to lean more towards the cautious side than playing with their guts.

Arnaud Lafaurie 9 years, 11 months ago

great stuff and you did great work on the video to make to have this interaction with comment well done.
One negative: please, buy a microphone to David Emmons, and please David, think about subscribers that are non english, all other guy at the table speak very clear except you+your bad microphone

What an amazing group of individuals and a fantastic format for gaining first hand insight into their thought process in all the biggest spots and the leveling involved among top poker pros!

Phil Galfond I guess is waiting for Pro vs Pro table 2.0?

Nakamator 9 years, 11 months ago

I dont even play nl but this was absolute awesome. Would love to see a plo version of it obv :)

Congratz to editors. Sick job

AntagSS 9 years, 11 months ago

Great vid, thanks!
but next time could u probably considering having an mtt final table payout structure? would be curious to see all those guys discuss icm. and u have an mtt section, not sng =)

Kaizen 9 years, 11 months ago

36'20: Isn't the best hand to cbet and barrels because we block the strongest TP (which can be in SamSquid's range i suppose) and that we have ssome back door SD and FD, or there are too many people to talk behind us ?

TrapSnapFap 9 years, 11 months ago

Exactly what I was thinking. Also, if this isn't one of the hands we should be cbetting as a bluff at this table, which hands are better? Even if it is a rare spot, Isn't it exploitable to have zero bluffs here?

justin 9 years, 11 months ago

Really forward thinking by RIO crew. This site is the best because it continually challenges preconceived notions on what a poker instructional video is. Well done to those who conceived this idea, and to the editors that made it a reality. I hope the innovation continues!

K-Pingu 9 years, 11 months ago

Awesome video <3 Funny this came out right now. Just few days before I was thinking about exactly this idea and how great video it may make. Was about to write about that idea, but then started to think it might be too difficult to put into practice. I was thinking about swiching to essential plan for a while because of downswing and low bankroll and lowish motivation and that kind of things, but I'm pretty sure waiting for the next parts is enough reason for me to continue as an elite. Thanks for this and just amazing job! If there is anything that could be even better than this, it would be high stakes 6-max NLHE cash game with the same format. And only thing this sng one is missing is naturally Sauce flatting Obst's min opens "too much" from blinds. ;-D

@Betudontbet: What about squeeze?
@Andy McLEOD: Why bluff with JJ? Got other candidates like ATo, AJo, KQo, AQo, Axs. You got no nutblockers and JJ plays decent as a flat. You said something about that the 4b was explo, do you see any problems with this approach against good players?

Overall I think some of you focus too much on dynamic and exploative plays, especially with this lineup. Whats ur thoughts about that?

Nice format btw.

James Obst 9 years, 11 months ago

Yeah it's not good in theory, I talked more about it after but mainly I was just being a coward and taking the less complicated line because I hadn't played for a few months and wasn't confident I'd make good decisions post. If BB is massively over bluffing there's a point at which it may become the best play but it was just dumb to assume it would be a light squeeze more than it should be - call clearly standard. Wasn't looking forward to that being shown lol.

Disagree, this is a unique format in so many ways.. everyone on the table will play differently in some way than if it was a standard daily tournament so if you can be the one predicting those deviations correctly that's how you'll realise an edge - how well I did at that I don't know though! Not playing/talking like this in most other situations.

Kepalas89 9 years, 11 months ago

Nice project, but I think gray31 should be here, cause Jeans89 isn't tournaments specialist. Jeans89 would be very valuable in that type project of PLO :)

pop. 9 years, 11 months ago

Just signed in for the first time to the site and this is the first video i see...awesome!
Im a mostly a sng player so this was great for me.
Well done video and excellent idea for it as well!

Ben Grise 9 years, 10 months ago

Amazing video! Thanks guys looking forward to more of these. Pure Cash you put him on the broadway gut shot on turn and then folded! Go with your 1st instinct!

shakesbear 9 years, 10 months ago

Cliff:
- Playing tight when you are in tough neighbourhood. ie "Can't make a flush, don't open that shit"
- Beware of you time bank, ie " I'm gonna use my blockers, omg i time out "
- Yrwthmelthr makes a lot of foil
- Sam is funny

+1000 for putting this together
Thanks everyone

For the last hand AQ vs JK on A5ddt27d

Lets think about villan's value range for betting river
A5 (1) 2 combos A5s but say he raised 1 on the flop
TT (1) he might 3 bet sometimes pre and raise sometime on the flop
55 (1) folded pre sometimes, and raise flop sometimes
AT (1) He has 1 combo of ATs pre and he didn't raise flop
strong flush KJdd, KQdd, TJdd, T9dd, he might raised some of those on flop
weak flush 89dd, J9dd, he might check behind turn sometimes.
So we give him half of all flush combos that arrived at river this way and bet 1122.(3)
So that's 7 combos of hands that beat us. I think this is slightly on the tighter side but very reasonable.

His bluff combos are probally KQ, KJ, plus some Tx or Ax hand turned into bluffs. Is he bluffing here with at least 3 combos of those ?

It's a tough spot. Can someone explain a little more ?

cyclone420 9 years, 9 months ago

Why not set mine 22 from the SB @ 2:00? Doesn't his stronger opening range mean we're more likely to stack him when we flop our set?

devil_tear 9 years, 1 month ago

Just subscribed to Elite today. mainly due to meeting Sam Grafton in a cafe in Prague and telling me about the great content. This was the first vid i've watched... and yeah he wasn't lying. Loved it.

Mheitz 5 years, 11 months ago

James Obst Idk if any of you guys look at this video anymore, but as a player of less than one year I'm wondering if card removal should come into play as a relevant factor here at around 26:00? Obviously it's easy now to see AK has only two outs and that AA or KK is very unlikely. But since we know all theses players are good and not really fuckin around too much, aren't their calling ranges fairly well defined as mostly pocket pairs or Broadways which will heavily block QQ+? HJ vs UTG+2 should be fairly strong and the over-callers all know 1. they are facing strong ranges 2. their equity falls exponentially faster than their pot odds improve 3. their RIO against as stronger field will not be able to make up for their multiway equity losses.
