Hey Steve,
@0:56 hero defend 68o vs HJ 2bb open and you say it's wide but probably ok, that looks to me very loose and way to wide. From what I remember on micros players tend to open tighter and rake is higher so that looks to wide?

Steve Paul 10 years, 3 months ago

Yeah this is definitely wider than I defend, and you make a good point regarding rake. I have very little confidence in saying what is/isn't too wide facing a minraise so I think I just gave it the benefit of the doubt.

Hi Steve, great video as usual.

4:40, the Ad3d spot.

Assuming that our opening range from UTG is around 15% and assuming that we cbet KQo+, our cbetting range contains like 33 combos of TP or better (KQo+, 22, 55, KK), if we cbet all FDs (is correct ?!) we will have a range comprising 33 combos of "pure value" and 16 combos of "semi-bluff". (the count is approximate).
- How do you decide how many "entire bluff" combos use in that spot ?

Entire Bluff = AcQ,AcJ or Ad3d

  • Do you think that AcQ, AcJ are good candidates also to be included in our "ch/calling" range?
I prefer ch/call AcQ than 88-, beacuse we have a blocker to KQ+2 backdoors, while with medium pocket pairs we have a hand that will improve less often. Do you agree?

Thank you for the reply! I hope that my bad english will not compromise the quality of your reply.

Gl:)

Hi reds, glad you liked it. Sorry in advance that my answers here are a little vague.

I mostly bet my flush draws there, though I likely x/c some of my Kxcc or an occasional nfd. I can't give a number for how many bluffs but I'd aim for more than a 1:1 ratio, especially given how much equity your flush draws have. I also think you might want to bet wider than KQ for a mix of protection/denying equity but again I can't say for sure.

I agree that AcQ is a better x/c than something like 77, but it's also a better bet (really it's just a better hand).

Nice video. But still, i'd like to see more live sessions based on basic GTO concepts ((like James Hudson used to do.. well, what he explained wasn't basic but you catch my drift) from the pros on smaller stakes (0.15 - 0.25 / 0.25 / 50) since most people on essencial are around those stakes and would benefit alot from those kinda videos!

Keep the great work coming

32:50 table 3, AKo: You suggest c-betting the flop to make him fold smaller pairs (and we have good equity). How do you feel about delayed c-betting instead? Do you expect hands like 55 to lead turn to deny us that opportunity (in which case I think we can call turn)? Or are you mostly planning to barrel off 3 anyway even without a heart and therefore need to start by betting flop?

I'm just somewhat confused in spots like this because most of the hands that fold to one bet on flop would give us an opportunity to delayed c-bet and fold to it and hands that don't fold flop are somewhat strong on runouts where we don't hit so betting one or two vs those doesn't accomplish a whole lot. And, is it mubsy to not be all that excited about going b-b-b with ~KK here co vs hj?

Steve Paul 10 years, 2 months ago

I think with AK no heart that I cbet I'm mostly barrelling off on non-hearts. But after reading your post I'm left feeling very unsure about whether I prefer b/b/b with all my overpairs or developing a pretty substantial delayed cbet range. I suspect either can be reasonable. Vs most opponents though your flop bet is only getting folds from 99-, so you don't really get much in the way of protection, but e.g. KK misses quite a bit of flop value from AK/AQ/KQ/AJ-QJs/maybe some QQ and only loses to 9-12 combos. There are certainly opponents against whom the river barrel with KK is not going to be best but I think against those that b/b/x is likely a better line than x/b/b. All in all, I'm not at all sure and could certainly be swayed one way or another.

Hi Steve

Very articulate. I like your video.

1.) Suggestion to your note system: Make your first note with x question marks than remove one everytime you see that note reconfirmed, when all are removed maybe add exclamation marks. Of course with HM2 you could use autonotes to the same effect.

2.) Question about your strategy of calling 3bets. You mention several times pot odds to justify calling with AQ/AJ, without considering 3bet frequency of opponent. You seemed very confident. What good is it to call with those if your opponent 3bets rarely (say 10+,AK). Sure you have the right pot odds to call but might end up dominated in a big pot. Could you please elaborate on the interaction of these two factors (odds / opponents 3bet frequency). I seem to fold way too often in your liking.

thx
David

Glad you liked the video and thanks for the suggestion. Will have to look into autonotes, I don't even know what that is :)

Most of the time I talk about calling 3bets I'm talking about a default strategy. If your opponent only 3bets TT+, AK then just fold too much, but recognize that he can adjust and crush you.

Hi everyone! Thanks for the very nice video ( as always ) , really like your explanations. On the minute 31:50 the hand with aces ( triple barrel ) what do u think about checking on the river since we dont block any flush draws ? Its a comum question im always asking myself should i value or let him bluff ( based on player tendencies offcoure ) , on the one hand it seems like an obvious spot for bluff so vilain never bluff but at the same time very hard spot for vilain to call ... any advice on this type of spots ? Thanks , and sorry for my english guys.

14:30 blabla GTO talk vs a guy playing on his tablet and who is an apparent clown. seriously? I'd appreciate some exploitative ideas on what to do vs the fish on that spot
