Excellent video and series. Hail Mary video request for HU PLO session review against Isildur or Ziigmund.

Oh, and happy belated / time-warp bday Phil! ;)

Delayed CBs are okay so I hope delayed "Happy birthday!" is okay too!

I dont have a lot to comment on. Just wanted to give you some feed back.
I like this series so I hope you will do more of these.

Love this format, keep doing one or two more of these please :)

Thanks for making a lot of very good videos Phil, and happy birthday!

This is just perfect for me. I'm getting a lot out of seeing you review a lower limit player and you analyzing the action in different situations. TY. Working on your birthday.......dedication!

Hey Phil!
Around 3:30 with 9654ds you're saying that if you had a slightly better hand like 9865ds you would consider 4betting against the squeeze. Do you 4bet in that spot against a 4% squeezer as well as against a wider like 8-10% range?

Phil Galfond 10 years, 2 months ago

Hey luestig - I wouldn't 4bet there against a 4% squeezer, no... it's just too likely I'm getting my money in bad and never getting folds. Against 8-10 it becomes much better due to preflop FE and your FE on paired and Ace high boards.

Cool thanks for the quick response. One more question regarding that spot.
If you had a hand like AKJTs or KQJTs do you like flatting more to let the third guy come along and play a big pot 3way with a hand that does very well against both of their ranges or would you also 4bet these kind of hands to punish a wide squeezing range?

Phil Galfond 10 years, 2 months ago

Good question. KQJTss I definitely want to go multiway - wouldn't ever consider 4-betting.

With AKJTss it's slightly different. I'd 4bet in situations where the squeezer's range is really wide, because I can be pushing an equity advantage and avoid awkward flop situations in poor relative position. My standard would be to call.

Just to add one (obvious) thing to what Phil said above - AKJTss can be a good 4betting hand because we block AA and KK by roughly 1/2, which should make up a good portion of normal 5+ betting ranges. My standard is to call too, though, against most opponents.

Just had an idea for a new video series... You get another RIO Pro (maybe Jeans, Zach, or Alex?) and play HU PLO (at whatever stakes) each recording your side of the match, then release the videos as a pair. I think it would be interesting to see the similarities/differences in the way two high level pros judge the same scenario from opposite perspectives.

Thanks Phil, I've really enjoyed this series. It's nice to watch the video trying to spot situations that I'd play in different way and then hear your thoughts so it's like three opinions compared to usual two (you and the viewer).

One question: At the beginning (0:45) you were talking about your logic when thinking whether to make a looser open or not and said that you put the most importance on who is BB, then BTN, CO and SB. I'm wondering how is it because very rarely you are opening total garbage from other positions than BTN or SB, or on very rare occasions from CO. And if our looser opening hands are like range 25%-50%, I don't mind too much if BB defends much and I can play with position and only slight range disadvantage (25%-50% range has almost 48% eq vs. 60% defending range and 39% eq vs. 10% 3b-range). But if it's the CO or BTN that defends much, then the situation gets lot nastier to handle well. So at least so far I've been mostly worried who are sitting IP, after that who is BB and then SB.
