DirtyD12 years, 1 month agoReally interesting thoughts on the J988 hand about non-standard lines. Any advice on how to find/come up with these types of lines, besides thinking about poker a lot?
Just reviewing any interesting pots will help... especially talking it over with friends. I'd also recommend reviewing interesting hands/lines from opponents you respect. If a strong player makes a play that makes no sense to you, the fact that they're good/smart means that you should try very hard to figure out why they made the play they did, and you'll learn from that thought process.
at 29:45 top right corner on the Jh 9h 7h you say the opponents range is capped since he checked back flop, and although that is true I just wanna ask you what you think about, from time to time, to check back the flop with the A-high flush there so you even make yourself NONE-capped in as many situations as you can?
I'm not saying you should check back A-high flush there always ofc, but maybe 10% of the time, and it would kinda be worth it because it would be some very weird turnplays were leo leads and you call and raise the river or you raise the turn etc. And if we DID get to showdown there, a hand like that could stick in the opponents head for spots like that, knowing we are not always capped etc.
Is it because it is just unnecessary to maybe check back flop with Ahxhxx because its a small SRP pot and you still gonna have enough low flushes to fight back with and so on? (but still, I just hate being capped, and wanna do something about it haha)
Anyways, amazing stuff as usual from you Phil. Thank you so much for sharing these stuff with us:)
And you also talked about it in one of your holdém videos, there you said you hate having the same betsize on for example turns, because its like giving away information to your opponents if they always know you will bet $75 or check on the turn.
Isn't it the same thing about ALWAYS checking back nutflush on Jh 9h 7h and "being capped"? You give away the information that you can't have the nuts basically. And yeah, its hard to have the nuts anyways, but still? Worth considering maybe, because it is free information to always be capped in some spots.
