Hey Paul really liked this video. I'm re-starting playing poker after 5 years and will try to learn differently then before. I'm just micro-stakes player now. But can I ask you about GTO wizard analysis? Do you think it's good to have it already now as a micro stakes player? Or should I wait to get to NL50, NL100 pool? Also what are your thoughts about uploading hand history in GTO wizard? I really like that option because AI shows your when you played wrong and all -ev decisions. So if I decided to go GTO Wizard I think I'd go for premium membership.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Hey Simon,
Thanks for your kind words.
Do I think its a good idea to have a solver for a microstakes player?
I personally think that solvers can both be a help and a hindrance in some ways. I don't think that you need to worry about being at a certain stake before utilising them, but I do think what you first need to do is to learn to utilise them properly. There is always going to be a learning curve to using them so I actually think starting out earlier can be beneficial.
What are my thoughts on uploading a hand history in GTOWizard?
Again this can be a positive and a negative depending on how you use it, I think it can be a great tool if you know how to interpret the results.
I'm actually producing a video at the moment for RIO on how beginners can best use solvers so keep an eye out for that as I think it will help a bunch.
GL at the tables.
Great video. I like the use of both GTOWizard and PT4 as this has become somewhat of a standard in the poker world for now. I liked the title of this thread immediately and the content within didn't disappoint. It's extremely easy for me to lose focus and start playing hands without a clear and concise plan in mind before I put $$ in the middle. Videos like this help greatly to reinforce that each and every hand needs to be truly dissected until it becomes second nature. Off table will obviously be a huge part of this for me, as well.
Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you found the video helpful. A little tip that i think can help you focus when you're in game and something i still do (online not live) is talking through the hands out loud. I feel like its extremely easy to get lost in your own thoughts but by talking through your thought process its easier to keep the mind focused on the task and thinking about the relevant questions.
I have OCD and a large library of bad memories harping at me throughout the day. If, however, I can find a way to lose myself into the poker table during a session, I'm capable of the opposite end of the spectrum: Hyperfocus. Truly in the zone. I'm trying to find my way there. I played multiple sports up until my early 20's and am trying to tap back into the mental state I had prior to my best performances in athletics.
Paul,
Nice video. Lots of good advice, especially for live players. I have seen a lot of players raise hands not realizing the short stack behind them. Also, like that you include hands that were played well and hands that mistakes were made.
