Hey Paul nice topic to cover. One question before I dive into the drill part -- in your pio sims - do you factor in the rake and if so, what structure you using?
Because I've done some study similar a while back (considering for low-stakes nowadays most sites are raked higher than 5% 3bb cap), What I found out is that -- the defending threshold from BB is actually quite different when you factor that in.
The rake is factored in which is 500nl pokerstars rake i believe. However something that's potentially more important for these sims which i didn't mention in the video is that these sims were set up for ante games and so the ranges are wider than what you will see in regular 6 max ranges so you need to be aware of that.
So yea great point about the defending threshold with the rake. The way i like to use a solver is to try to get ideas from it so i still think the drilling section could be useful even if you aren't playing in ante games as you may be able to see differences from your sims which can help in game such as ''how does the solver react/how do things change with wider ranges''. This could be useful then when defending against a recreational for example.
I will do a better job in future videos though of showing the set up of the sim as it is really important so thanks for the comment :)
Paul,
Nice video. Do you think that most players that over range bet flops in a mindless way will also under defend to the check raise line? I think a lot of hands that are continues to the check raise are not necessarily intuitive to most players, so you see a fair amount of overfolding.
Yes 100% i think theres a section towards the end of the video where i show how they are supposed to defend vs a XR and its very unintuitive and you'll see a big overfold vs some players which is a great point because obviously if this is the case we can be even more aggro with our XR because of their mistakes but then just be a bit more careful on turns as their range will be a bit more condensed than a solver.
Appreciate you covering this node. Over cbetting is especially prevalent in early stage tourney play.
My understanding is on boards that not only favor your range but also give you the nut advantage, a lot of your cbetting will be done at a big size. Do you feel that is correct?
Hey, sorry for the late reply, it is true in a lot of spots but it also depends on the range construction of the other person as well as things like SPR etc.
