David Kim12 years agoFirst comment on this website, really enjoyed this series. I learned a lot and learned a new style of play where you're forced to be on point with your hand reading skills and it puts yourself in unique spots. Can't wait for the next one
I think this video series is great the showing of every hand works well i think as we can get a sense of game flow which for me is very important in looking at hands. Seeing the hands that you pass is helpful for me as after watching this and seeing some of then places you differ from me ,with regards to late opening spots especially, i went through HM and found some hands that were costing me money as i was opening too loose so thanks for that.
In this video a quick question on balance at 32:00 you pass on calling 22 with 26bb effective as you dont want to set mine etc.. and then make the comment that calling would allow you to flat big hands as you open your flatting range, which i understand, my point is do you think people really make a note ( mental or otherwise) of stuff like this and should i be doing so more ? I fully understand what you are saying by the way about the concept of having a wider range so you can flat big hands i was just interested in how you react if you see someone doing this do you actually write a note on someone about this or do you just try and file it away in your head ? I know this is the 100r and people play better etc but is this something i should be doing ?
Many Thanks for your video i feel you are definitely one of the people i have taken the most from on here.
Cheers

James Obst11 years, 3 months agoHey Rich, sorry I didn't get to this. Really good question re. would people actually notice - Some would be more perceptive than others but for the most part I don't think people would remember/note specifics often, no, but when you're playing against the same regs a lot they will catch on that you seem to flat call fairly often - it'll show up in your stats too. That said, I do try to take brief notes that will help me get an idea of someone's pre-flop tendencies, so if I saw them flat 22 in a spot that was genuinely unusual, I'd hopefully see it and note that. Personally my memory retention for specific tendencies of opponents isn't the best, but I find I can catch on very quickly for the most part based on small amounts of info - seeing what might look like an unrelated action from a player, say an aggressive post-flop play, can be enough to allow you to draw conclusions about how they'll approach playing certain hands pre-flop - then once you have three or four little clues you start to feel pretty confident about what their rough tendencies will be.
As always, if you're not playing against the same guys much then your play should be more exploitative-based and you should worry less about this kind of thing (also in less reggy fields less people will be using HUDs), just remember to keep an eye on who you're up against and if they'd know anything about your game.
Just wondering how light we're calling this river shove since his range is polarized to flushes and air. It seems like trip 8s is good here about as often as 33 is good here although I don't think I'd have the heart to call with 33 but logically it's kind of the same call. Also what if we had A2o with the ace of clubs blocker? His bet is so big he seems to be repping big flushes.
