In this fifth episode, we take a deeper look at why no one is folding to 4bets anymore and why you shouldn't either!

Hey thejericho2 - still loving the course.

With opponents who are 4 betting too little or too much, or using unorthodox sizings, how do you adjust?

thejericho2 4 months ago

Vs sizing, it's simple because we naturally have to be sizing sensitive.

For example, if I 3bet Btn vs CO w 54s and BB c4bets to like 31bbs and we are 100bbs deep, then it's an easy fold even though I should never be folding vs a normal 23bbs c4bet.

Vs high or low fqcy, you rly need strong reads before making any adjustments and it can be quite tricky. If you tell me that someone is c4betting w high fqcy, then bluff jamming more often w baby Axs can be a play. But some guys just 4bet wider for value every time (88-10, AQo) and their bluffing range pre is not wider. So you just end up burning more money into them. So you have to be careful and have strong reads and be confident in those reads before developing a counter strat,

Great video. Definitely learned a few things here.

Also interested in how we might want to adjust our 4Betting, given the leaks we're seeing.

My takeaway is probably that most regs at 200+ are 4betting an OKish range (maybe some midstakes regs are still missing the suited broadways), but I think most regs have big leaks vs the 4bet (myself included before I watched this!).

So that said, if we think players are calling too wide with suited broadways, and are mostly 5b shoving their QQ+/AK instead of trapping, it seems like going wider for value and 4Betting AK pure, KQs, AQs, JJ, TT (maybe even AQo?) would make for a great exploit now?

Also maybe we can 4Bet bluff more and blast off on boards that aren't Queen or Jack high?

Thanks.

Many of my students in the past suggested, like you just did, to 4bet wider for value to counter the overall pool tendencies. And although it seems like an okay idea in a vacuum (nobody traps AA-KK, AK enough pre), what ends up happening is that your calling range vs 3bets starts to suffer.

I kind of like to follow the theory and only deviate vs guys that I have strong reads against. With that said, if you can exploit v well, it might be better for you to come up w your own strat vs the specific pool that you play against.

thejericho2,
Interesting to see ATs continuing this much and seeing JTs folding. What are your thoughts on why ATs continues to 4 bet when we can be dominated and when we hit ace it may be tough to get stacks.

Thanks

thejericho2 4 months ago

JTs is too dominated and doesn't play that well in small SPR. For example, OOP will 4bets some AJs, KJs and ATs as a bluff which all have us dominated. ATs is not as bad because of the Ace being so strong vs his KK-TT region.

thejericho2,
Really enjoyed the video. How does stack depth change continue ranges both in and out of position when we are deeper, say 200bb+? Does some of the suited connectors start to get in there? Curious if strategy changes are small or if there is anything more drastic.

Thanks

Glad to hear. First of all, I haven't studied 200bb 4bet pots strat that much.

From what I remember, the Ax blocker becomes way more valuable the deeper that we get because we block the nuts pre (AA). You have more leeway as well w suited connectors because of stack depth (easier to realize equity). As for the rest, I would have to go back to the lab and study deep stack strategy w PIO or Wizard.

thejericho2,
Yeah, that makes sense. Seems like having a bit more board coverage when at higher spr would be valuable.

Thanks thejericho2

These ranges in the bunny software are your own personal ranges that you have loaded into the software, or the software comes with them already loaded?
