Nicolau Villa-Lobos

POSTED May 28, 2017

In part 2 of his current series, Nicolau Villa-Lobos aka nicofellow resumes the action holding a healthy 75bb stack. Early on, he turns to his HUD to exploit weaker players and build a stack as he approaches the bubble.

QJo Pre: Against solid players in the blinds I guess a fold is the best play, but with the fish in the SB I assume that he will call too much and makes many mistakes postflop, so I would go with the flatcall in this spot. A bluff 3bet isnt that good with offsuited hands like this, because you get a frequency problem, if you start 3betting all of these offsuited broadways.

I would say against the hj I will be more inclined to 3bet or fold. If he had around 30bb probably the 3bet will work better, because with 40 I still think he is going to call more pre flop, and 3betting this hand can be really nice to win the pot right away, or even though play in position against a not very strong range.

In the AA on minute 27, you say that you should have called the turn instead of shoving. Being out of position, if you would have called, woudl you have donk the river to try to get more value, or would you have checked expecting that he would shot a second barrell but putting in risk getting more value?

That hand is really unusual and will happen with a very very low frequency, this way it is a little tough for me to evaluate the best play. When he is not cbetting against 2 players (plus I have 2 aces in my hand blocking the top pair), I dont think I will get to much value against him. So, if I call the turn, and lead the river, he is just going to call with the hands that he would bet in case I check AQ and QQ I think. So maybe checking and giving him the chance to bluff will be more profitable :)

99 at 42min seems like a really easy fold. You don`t get have any fold Equity by being the one that jams and even if he jams 5% off hands(Which is much wider than u gave him), you still only have 40% eq, and a tight player like that is pretty easy to play against?

Yes and no haha. Just to explain my thought, I definitely agree with you in some part, but on the other hand he is shoving 30bbs, so I think we have to consider that he is not going to that with KK and AA most part of the time, and even QQ. So when he jams like this I would say is more restrict to have TT JJ and AQ+. If he goes a little crazy sometimes with 99 88, we might have a profitable call here. But, I still think folding is the best option here!

Hello thx for the vid
31:00 on 68JQsxsx We checked as OR and Villain did not bet OTF , but overbet OTT : I agree with you that most of his bluffs would start bluffing OTF, but when he size this big what value hands do you see in his range? We block 2 combos of 9Ts , and 9tss would bet flop , I don't see a strong Q : KQ AQ , or 2 pairs : Q8 QJ bet this big, since our range looks this weak.

I like the way you think about that last hand, ATo and whether to 3b or flat. For the most part I was thinking about it in the same way you did. I think it is better to 3b/fold vs opponents that are tigher from CO, because we block lots of their calling range. If we would just flat against this tighter opponent and Axx bord came, we dont know where we stand and the decision tree gets little too tricky. Against looser opponents I like flat more exactly for the reasons you said, we dominate lots of his Tx hands and I think even lots of his Ax hands. I can see him opening any Ax. It might be worth also thinking about who is in the blinds and adjust flatting/ 3betting to that.
