Cool video, Max. I have never had the idea to copy the hand into a document and write about the mistake during training, usually just something I would reserve for a hand review, but it makes a lot of sense in regards to cementing learning.
Another thing is about GTO Wizard. I recommend you switch to the General sims for this type of study. I believe they are more accurate and have better preflop ranges and bet sizes.
How much is your study time spent on trainers as opposed to running your own sims?
I just started using gto wizard. Why do you like it compared to other gto software?
I think it would be great to see another trainer video where you take hands to completion going through turn and river and maybe look at playing vs 3bets or in srp vs btn call.
Thanks for the comment! Usually when studying GTO I'd say I start with the trainer and if I find something very interesting I start to dig deeper. Fortunatly BrPC has all the trees for all the spots solved, so I almost never solve a new tree :)
I like GTO Wizard mostly for the huge amount of features, it's not only the trainer or the sims, but much more. I have had experience only with Simple GTO Trainer beyond Wizard tbh.
And about your last comment, I'm sure you'll be happy with the next video then ;)
first of all, thank you for this video, it have intro for the concept and mindset, and take it to practical use for study. I am a NL5 and NL10 player, do i need to subscribe to GTO trainer? can you recommend another trainer for beginner (with the low cost and good feature) ? thanks
You don't need to subscribe to GTO Wizard, there are plently of trainers out there. I don't know much about them to be honest, the only one I used was the one from Simple Poker, it's very good, the only downside for a begginer is that you need to run all of the trees yourself and then add them to the software, GTO Wizard already have everything solved. The downside of having everything solved is that you can't use your own parameters (maybe you want to use only one sizing that's different than what wizard gives you), so it has downsides of course. But for a begginer I think it's the best route
Excellent process. Thanks for sharing.
I like the idea of using the notes to formalize thoughts and to spot leaks in real-time, but do you utilize these notes after your practice session? Will you consolidate some key takeaways into another note, making a list of heuristics? Or will you come back and revisit the notes at a later date, like when you notice a mistake in your HH?
Yes, usually I go thru the notes on the next day before starting a new study session, I think only typing things down and never looking at them again is not a good way to go. I still think it's better than not writing down, but for a good asssimilation I highly reccomend re-reading the notes on the next day, at least once.
I have to be honest and say that I'm not without bias - I am a BRPC player and have been coached by Max and am now in the same study group.
But honestly, I've been a RIO member, on and off, since the site started, and this is (imo) without a doubt one of the best videos on the whole site.
Run it Once has an unbelievable roster of some of the best poker players of all time, which is an incredible resource, but this is a video that gives simple, practical steps towards improving your game, and that is, as a long time subscriber, very rare (there are lots of other great videos but unless you are already a very good player you have to read between the lines, which is a whole other thing).
After Robin's feedback I had to re-watch the video. And got some good "a-ha moments". Indeed this video is REALLY sick. Made me realize the importance of smart work/practice. Got some really good insights on how to do that and make my studies more efficient. Thanks a lot bro!!

Awesome bro! I used to not write down my thoughts as well, but once I strated doing so I noticed how benefitial it is.

The first half of this video was great motivation and it was great to see someone smarter than me use gto wizard to study in the back half
