14:00 Calling with 52s in the BB vs CO open. Don't think this is good considering I got pretty flamed for calling 42s in the BB vs SB in the HU video Galfond reviewed of my game. CO in 6max will also have a waay tighter opening range than bt in HU.
18:00 "He's from Finland and people from the Scandinavian countries are generally very aggressive" Reminds me of a video Sbrugby made like 5 years ago when he said this guy's from Rusia so I call. Are you really comfortable basing your play on reads like this?
14:00: Calling 52s is probably a losing play, I think its just a mistake.
18:00: Its a combination of him being from Finland I haven't seen him play often, which def makes it more likely that he's bluffing. I think in general Scandinavians are more likely to be 4 bet bluffing here compared to say a Canadian, or a brit. I wouldn't make dramatic strategy adjustments based on his country, but I think it widens his range slightly, probably enough that I can call JJ OTF instead of folding.
6:38 If we're folding AKo here we're basically saying that we don't have a 4bet range in this spot OR that our 4bet range is entirely value (ie totally imbalanced). Would like to here your thoughts on range construction regarding this spot and this fold. I would think that AKo needs to fit in eithering a CCing range or a 4betting range in this spot given that villains are regs and aren't playing exploitatively tight ranges (thus allowing us to just fold and steal from them in other spots).
Intuitively I would think that we should have a 4bet range in this spot instead of trying to construct a CCing range. If we do, the deciding whether AKo is a 4bet for value or as a bluff would probably be the most important decision in constructing that range.
When UTG opens and UTG+1 3bets, I should be bluffing very rarely, maybe my only true bluff would be AQ, because they both have quite strong ranges and there are still 3 ppl behind me. I think AKO is a hand I should 4bet pf in this spot. If utg shoves over my 4bet its a trivial fold IMO, he shouldn't be shoving AKo and probably not QQ. If UTG1 shoves, its still probably a fold, I'm likely against a range of KK+ because he can choose to call the 4bet with AK and QQ. I would normally 4bet this hand, I guess technically its a bluff, because I want them to both fold. The other side is I don't think UTG1 ever really has JJ so his range is basically QQ+ AK and bluffs, and he may not always 3bet QQ and AK. I still prefer 4b/fold to what I did though because he will have enough bluff combos IMO.
I'd like to add I can 4bet and than change my mind and decide to get it in if something makes me think its an appropiate play.
Right before you said 'this is an ugly spot,' I thought to myself, "wow, this is an ugly spot." I think in the hand itself, you did the right thing. Maybe in the meta-game, it's good to have a 4bet/fold range here to induce 5bets in spots where you have AA, but honestly, how often does this spot come up? So seldom that I think you don't need to worry about balancing it.
if you 4bet to roughly 90 you still wouldn't get the right price to call the UTG shove as we are deeper versus a range of QQ+ AK, which means you can SAFELY 4bet fold and not worry that you are losing value.
so the real question becomes whether you get enough folds to warrant the price on your bluff. you risk 90 to win 62.5 so you need everyone to fold at least 90/152.5= 59% of the time, if the players behind you simply played shove/fold and UTG/MP don't have a OOP 4bet flat range. now, its crucial here to know what type of player the MP is regarding his 3bet range MPvUTG, some players love to up their bluff frequency here as it forces everyone to have a hand to play back at them. Other players may be incredibly tight.
if you had a balanced strategy here, you may find that using all AK hands would be too many combos ie if you constructed your range {KK+,bluffs} your bluff combo range might need to be smaller.
in practice, i've seen MP bluffing here way too often, so i would be inclined to take the 4bet/fold line but i would glance at the 3bet MPvUTG stat of MP first before doing so.
Hi, nice video.. really enjoyed it. One question, at around 24:20, what do you think the merits are of leading the river as a bet-fold? I think by checking you are giving a lot of his hands that want two streets of value a chance to check back, a lot of those hands may consider calling a river bet since your lead may be viewed as bluffy? What range are you expecting him to triple barrel that won't raise a river lead anyway?
I'm still gonna get to the river with a lot of weak hands, i.e. Qx, Tx with one diamond, hands like 77 with a diamond or ad6x kd6x. I want to check the river with this hand for a few reasons, 1. I don't think villain is bad enough to call hands like the one he had OTR, that is to say most hands he calls my donk with he will vbet himself. 2. If I lead my flushes OTR I open myself up to getting bluffed off my top pairs when I check river. 3. He has a number of bluff combos that I don't allow him to bluff with by leading the river.
Lastly if I start leading this hand and he becomes aware of it, he can start shoving over my bet wide with bluffs + nut flushes, and boats, my hand as played has a very comfortable c/c OTR, where if I lead I allow him to raise, putting me in a position I don't want to be in.
I think 4betting is substantially better than calling, I prevent the pot from going 3 ways and I have pf fold equity with a vulnerable hand., I will have a tough time continuing if I don't flop a pair. I think folding is bad, and that 4betting and seeing how they react has to be the best play.
It might be pretty obvious for everyone, but how do you get this table scheme on Stars, where you sit in the middle? I couldn't find it. Thanks for the answer.

Can you explain why flatting in position with AK v 3b is not even considered? Seems like a reasonable play to me.

Hey,
It might be pretty obvious for everyone, but how do you get this table scheme on Stars, where you sit in the middle? I couldn't find it. Thanks for the answer.
this is 'preferred seating' and is in the options tab (not a table scheme). you can also set 'preferred seat' in HM2.
Thanks Daz.
You think limp/call Q6 from SB is a good move ?
