POSTED Oct 12, 2017

Apoth continues to ride along with Run It Once member SOxLID in his deep run in the Big $55. While Apoth is complimentary of SOxLID he finds the biggest trouble spots to be inconsistencies in 3 bet pots.

great vid. at 5-6min with 96, u say on river we shud have 2 bet sizes, one for 8-9k and one for 21-30k. you think a king sizes 8-9k? i feel kx is stronger than that

There are a number of hands that benefit I think. I'm not sure which one benefits the most. I'd recommend running a pio sim of the spot if you want to look at stuff that in depth I don't think I can describe the EVs of many hands in the strat in a single post (especially when they will be a function of villain's strat across two different streets).

Great vid, as always! What are spots in no limit, where we bet less than half pot in no limit? Could you elaborate on that?

Apoth 7 years, 4 months ago

That's an impossible question to answer really. There are a ton of spots where it's correct to bet small.

Oh, I mean OTR and IP, in vid you say it's very few spots to bet than half pot.. so I'm curiuos about those spots. 28:20

Usually you need really tight ranges and very strong blocker effects. A hand that comes to mind happened in one of the 50k Poker Masters events.

It's 3 or 4 handed (so there's ICM) and the hand is played between Fedor (BTN) and Tom Marchese (SB).

The board is AJxJA with a missed flop fd.

The action is Raise/3b/call, block/call, x/block/call, x/ And action is to fedor on the river. Fedor still has some bluffs and Tom should have some non Ax hands in his range still (QQ/KK perhaps as well as some Jx, maybe KQ fd etc) but he has a ton of Ax. Fedor still needs to bluff some combos (and also needs to get value w/ his Ax). If he picks a large bet size then Tom Just calls w. Ax and folds the rest. This results in fedor never getting any value. If he bets too big he maybe even just torch money w/ his bluffs (because Tom in-elastically calls Ax obviously) and he may bet such an amount that it results in the MDF being lower than the % of Tom's range that is Ax.

Here blockers are also obviously super important too. Whenever fedor has Ax, Tom is likely in some other part of his range. When Fedor is bluffing Tom is more likely to have a boat. These effects are essentially always true but this is more prevalent in this situation than most.

This is a pretty extreme spot (and fedor ended up betting like 1/8th pot OTR) but this should give you some idea of what you're looking for in the more generic case and why.

I have been trying to post in this video several times but Idk why I can't. (Maybe is too long of a post)

The button open of 96s seems standard and it wouldn't be terrible to open it from HJ or whatever depending on dynamics. The big $55 is not micro stakes. The 3-bet shove of 96s has to be bad though.

Minute 16, SB completes and bets 30% pot on A72 board. I know we don't have anything with T9o, but SB is FOS mostly, and we might play back in various ways.

Minute 17, 3-bet fold of A2s from SB against BTN. Commentator says 3-bet shove. You are 30%+ against everything but AA and he could 3-bet shove KQ, suited broadway, so you have odds to call the push. 3-bet shove is probably best, but you could also 3-bet/fold smaller, so you don't have odds to call, and you could also size like that to induce with JJ+.

3-bet bluff plays are situational, based on reads, and representing strength. I don't agree with the comment that it was incorrect to 3-bet KJo UTG+1 but not against a late position opener. The late position opening was farily short stacked raising the chip leader's blind. The UTg+1 3-bet should not be overdone, but is effective in representing JJ+/AK.

Great video Apotheosis,
At 31:49, i was really surprised you suggesting a small size on this texture. I think PIO almost always suggests a big sizing on these textures. Any particular reason for doing so??
