you don't defend qjo vs cutoff open3x ? as a tournament player i would always defend there but i could be proven otherwise for CG ? i don't play a whole lot of cash but i watch a lot of videos here and one of the hardest/more subtile adjustment is bb defense range imo from tournament to cash
nice vids, keep up the good work

I think it is a close defend. We have about 43% vs a top 25% range and he is a bit wider than that.

Defending this hand doesnt make a whole lot of money and vs a top opponent it might be around breakeven.

Nice video.

Please please please turn the pokerstars sound off next time though. I had to turn the sound up pretty loud to hear what you were saying and then almost got a heart attack like 22 times from the time out sound.

Hi Mark, nice video!

@8:45, the btn 3bets you to 40.  You then 4bet to 90.  I like the 4bet bluff too.  Could you also explain why you do that
particular sizing?

My take on the situation is that we are OOP with AJo, and to
discourage flats and min5bets from btn as done in the video, I like making
4bets larger oop, ~100-110.  What do you
think?

Maybe you could just elaborate on this spot a bit more
regarding the specific reasoning/reads?

@10:25, KTs, what if the CO 2.5x -3x pf?  Would you still 3bet from blind?  Or does that become a fold usually?

@20:58, btn A5dd does not vbet trips on the river
ATJ7Ahhh.  You think that is a leak, or
are we only calling with trips+ there?

Hi Syhe885,

Thanks!

Good questions:

I think players that fold somewhat often to 4bets have a more polarized 3betting range. So i think we can decrease our sizing a bit. Also AJo does play reasonably vs a range that probably doesnt include the AQ's and AK's(AQ doesnt 3bet and AK 5bets).

That said i think about 100-110 is probably a bit better.

10:25: Co is a weaker player. If he made it bigger i think flatting is better than folding.

20:58: Lets ignore the fact that he is a weaker player. If he wants to valuebet A5 he needs to get called by worse more than 50% of my callingrange. The fact that the turn was 3way and that the river completed a flushdraw i dont think that i would be calling enough weaker hands to make his hand a valuebet.

Maybe I am calling hands like QQ-KK with a heart. But occasionally i play AK and AQ and Thxh like this aswell.

Tyvm Mark!  I dug up a
couple more preflop spots-- seems you generally tend to think btn cc is not very
profitable and apply the gap principle,

@11:27, you folded ATo BTN vs CO.  I flat all my ATo vs even a 3x CO open.  ATo is at worse ~50% vs CO
opening range and we are guaranteed position.
From your experience though, is flatting here just been unprofitable and
too likely to get squeezed from blinds.  Maybe
you can correct my thinking here about specific situation.

@23:18, you mention cc JTs is ok in HJ.  Does this mean that you would cc QTs, KTs,
etc…?  I am trying to juggle between cc small pocketpairs vs JTs, which is more profitable HJ vs UTG?

@38:32, J9s, folding vs a HJ 2.5x open… your button cold
call seems much tighter than how I play.  Just not optimal to flat here from your
experience?  3bet bluff or fold vs HJ, but cc vs CO open?

Yvw,

In general when i flat IP with marginal hands i want to have hands that have more playabilty than ATo.

Even if we have a small equity edge or have about 50% vs their opening range we still have the blinds left to act. We will get squeezed about 10-20% of the time and there is no way a hand like ATo is going to do well in that spot.

Also when we do take a flop it's hard to cooler someone having ATo. We won't win a big pot vs their weaker aces and we do lose a decent sized pot when we both flop an ace and he has us outkicked.

Suited broadways do a lot better. We can float/ bluffraise more flops and just flop better draws with those hands.

Always take in account how often we get squeezed. How often the PFR will x/fold flops etcetc.

J9s vs a 16% open has better playabilty than a hand like ATo but only has 35% equity. So id rather 3bet or fold this hand unless we have reason to believe we can make a flat profitable. (so he needs to be quite weak as a player or 1 of the players left to act is a weaker player.)
